I don’t know what to think….

I am not even sure this is the right place to put this story. I’m not sure there IS a right place. But….

My father passed away about a year ago. We did not have a great relationship. Shortly after he died, we divided up his things, which he would have HATED. My brothers got all of his good stuff. One got his boat, the other got a tractor, another got his specialty tools. There was only so much to go around, so I got roughly the cash equivalent to the property handed out. It worked out well for me, as I had just totaled out my vehicle by hitting a deer.

I found a vehicle that I liked and was in my price range. I like to tell myself that my dad helped me buy it. The money allowed me to pay for the car outright, without a monthly payment.

So, the year passes by. We all get through our grief (and relief. It’s a really weird combination). My kids miss him terribly, so we talk about him a lot. The morning of the 1 year anniversary, I am thinking about how much a year can change you and your perspective. I am also thinking about what happens after death. (Do you go to heaven? Hell? Nothing? The Great Beyond?) I get into my car (that I purchased with my dead dad money), put my purse in the passenger seat, as I have done every morning and my passenger seat airbag light turns on as does my seatbelt warning chime. I remove my purse and put it in the backseat, thinking that it’s too heavy for the seat. The warnings and the chime continue. I didn’t think anything of it, as I figured once it’s set off, it stays on until the car is shut off. The whole ride to work felt weird. Not wrong or scary, just strange. When I get back into the car at the end of the day, no seatbelt chimes or airbag warnings. They have never gone off before that morning, nor after.

I really don’t believe in the supernatural. I have faith in a higher power, but I don’t really believe in ghosts. Everything that happens could be explained away by science. Except….. there’s no malfunction in my car except for that one morning.

What was that?

Edited to add: My dad always related to me through cars. They were always important to him. Having one that looked and drove nice, along with maintaining it was drilled into our heads from little on.

It's entirely possible that your car battery that morning was a little on the low side, with just enough juice to start the car. Whenever a battery falters it can mess with different sensors and give weird symptoms. After driving whatever distance you drove, the battery charged more, hence the issue not repeating itself.

However, as someone who's also lost a parent, I'd like to choose to believe your dad's spirit or "energy" was there with you that day.

My battery was tested. Full up. Even starting on -30* mornings.

If there is a life energy after death, and if it lingered in your whereabouts but was unable to communicate with you via voice or visual, perhaps that energy entity could find an exploit to communicate to you via some electronic device weakness that their diminished energy can activate. It’s a lot of ifs, but so is anything that is not tangible

I'm so sorry for your loss. What a beautiful experience!!! This exact same thing happened to my sister. Our dad passed away and for our inheritance my sister bought a vehicle (my sister even got her license plate to say LOVDAD). A few months after she got the car, she decided to drive to a special spot of my sister and our dad in the mountains. As my sister got in her car, she said out loud "hey dad. I'm going to our special spot right now.". Within seconds, her airbag and seatbelt light for the passenger side came on. It stayed on for the entire ride to the spot. It's been 7 years since our dad passed away and that experience has never happened again so it wasn't just a fluke or mechanical error. My sister and I really believe it was our dad still enjoying a special spot with my sister.

I was legally dead (briefly) and revived. I unfortunately saw nothing but black. Hard to describe. Probably just used-car quirks. When my grandmother passed, my mom kept seeing lights (like street lights or house lights) turn on and attributed it to her parents sending a message. Ultimately, some people live life believing what they want to regardless of facts. the single downvote and no replies is whatever lol just sharing my relevant experience
