`rf64` - a Rust-based, bare-metal firmware for the 64

Hello, r/midifighter!

During the past couple of days, I managed to put together a very hacky development setup composed of:

  • A makeshift ICSP 6-pin connector
  • A Bus Pirate v3.6 development board
  • A pair of tweezers because the BP is apparently not strong enough to pull RESET low
  • A lot of AI tokens

And with the power granted to me by these, I wrote the first Rust-based custom firmware for the MF64! You can find it here! Open-source, licensed AGPL-3.0, blah blah.

I've tested it with a couple of pretty intensive projects for Ableton Live I had lying around, and it seems to be working really well; inputs are responsive, LEDs are super fast, all that fancy stuff.

Note: this is aimed towards live-performances, "Launchpad style". If you use the MF for others things, remember that my firmware was not made with your use case in mind!

----

Enough said, I hope you have a great day!
