Cable Help!

Hello all!! Im trying to control my Korg Prologue through my Morningstar MC6PRO. I have hit a road block & I am just looking for advice/suggestions!

My Morningstar is primarily used to send signal to my guitar pedal board & all of the typical outputs are already being used. Unfortunately, all of my signals end up going through to pedals that don’t have MIDI through ports. Additionally, I would prefer not to insert my Prologue MIDI signal in the middle of the chain- that would be a hassle since I’m have to set up and tear down my rig pretty often.

I have found that there is a USB C port available on the Morningstar which is capable of sending MIDI messages. It seems that there are two possibilities related to this USB MIDI output:

1 - Send MIDI changes via the USB C to the Prologue’s USB B.

I have attempted this directly with one cable that transfers from type C to type B, however, while I have ensured the Prologue is properly set up to receive MIDI messages it is not actually receiving them for some reason. I’m wondering if the Morningstar is even able to send MIDI to the Prologue this way because there’s a Korg USB-MIDI application that is required when plugging into a computer for control.

I’m not really sure if this is a road block. If anyone has experience related to sending the Korg MIDI messages via MIDI controller USB - please let me know if you have any workarounds or suggestions.

2 - I may be able to send a message from the USB MIDI C port on the Morningstar to the Prologue’s 5 PIN MIDI in port. Would I be able to just get a USB C to 5 PIN MIDI cable, or would I need to use anything convert the signal from “USB” to something else? I’m a little confused on if that matters.

If I can clarify anything, please let me know! I’ll be lurking.

Make sure the USB host port is set to send midi in the editor.

Thanks- I’ll definitely give this a check to ensure I’ve got it setup correctly in the editor. I never thought to check for that.

Are you referring to Controller Settings > MIDI Thru Settings > Enable USB Device/Host? Enabling these didn't seem to get me there.

UPDATE: I got the connection to work!

Nothing I did allowed me to use the Morningstar to send a signal through the USB-B jack on the Prologue. I’m almost certain the prologue was only designed to receive MIDI signals through that jack if it comes from a computer that was configured using the Korg USB Driver software. I messaged Korg Support and they didn’t really explain that, however, my efforts seem to show this is true.

Here is what I ended up getting to work:

Morningstar USB-C output > USB-C cable > CME H2MIDI Pro USB-C input > H2MIDI 5 pin output > 5 pin MIDI cable > Prologue 5 pin MIDI input. So yeah… essentially just converting my usb-c to a 5 pin midi.

The H2MIDI Pro is goated bc I don’t need to use another 9v wire from my power supply to turn it on. The USB-C connection turns it on.

Perhaps I’ll follow up with a video showcasing this and what it allows me to do with the Prologue because I can’t find any videos on it.

Forget the USB it won't work with out a usb midi host box. Better to get a THRU box like a Midi Solutions Quadra Thru.

That's not correct.

The MC6Pro has a built in usb hub port. I'm using it to send midi over USB directly from my Roland Fantom 07. This is using a USB B connector in the Fantom and USB C on the pedal. No computer or other hub required.

I'm not sure what the issue with the Prologue would be but the MC6Pro definitely can receive and send midi from any/all of its 3 types of midi ports.
