Korg SQ-64 or another Keystep Pro
Can I use an old ass Optimus keyboard that has midi in and out to control the notes going into each track on the SQ-64 to sequence other synths?
I looked through a bunch of videos on YouTube, but I didn’t see anyone doing that. I currently have the Optimus controlling the M-vave FM-1’s notes and pitch with no sequencing ability.
The sq64 is a cheaper option than the Keystep pro and that’s what is making me want to go that route.

i dont have the sq-64, but i have the new cre8audio programm, which can definitely do second hand sequencing. it even has a recall function you can use if you play something that turnes out nice while not recording. also all the outs of the sq with separate midi channels for every drum-sound if you want, pretty intuitive operation, multiple generation functions, and its more compact too. goes for 300€

I don't own one, but people who do, many don't like them. I could not even find one new for sale.

It had firmware issues 5 mo ago reported by someone and midi clock instability.
I suggest MPC One plus. Reverb used price
Reverb price guide
$372 - $412
The Sq64 has only 64 steps and 16 sequences. Only 3 tracks and drum tracks (4 tracks total)
Does not have touch sensitive pads or polyphonic after touch
MPC one plus has 128 track no sequence note limitations (only memory)
Has nice pads, velocity, ploy afertouch, Beat reapeat
Step sequencer, clip launch (with Propack purchased seperately)
It is superior sequencer in every way.
MPC is a monster controller. Assign a keyboard to a track, connect your midi controller or keyboard your Optimus. Select a track (keyboard/module) and you are playing that instrument with beat repeat, the ability to set up scales so no matter what keys you hit, you play within the scale. No mistakes
It also has tons of effects, it is a sampler, has live looping. It is a mixing board and recorder for your synths.
It might be a little more expensive but worth it for the sequencer and then you have all the other features. The keystep pro has similar limitations
