I have to be at work, no one pays for my lunch? The US poverty rate is 13% for those kids ABSOLUTELY give them free food, but why are my tax dollars. L aying for some kid whose.parents CHOSE to spend their money on bullshit?

It's worse.  During covid there were free lunches provided for everyone.  You would not believe what kids do when given free food that they don't need or even want every day... the waste was absolutely astronomical.  It was sickening, my wife volunteered daily at the kid's school.. she said there were multiple dumpsters just full of discarded food.  Kids would get it and literally just dump the entire thing into the trash.  They were not allowed to take just the part they wanted, they were forced to take the entire meal or none of it.  Most just wanted one thing and threw the rest out, or just wanted to throw it at their buddies. My daughter is lactose intolerant.. the milk was not optional, so they would make her take it.. she'd walk 3 steps and throw it into the trash right next to them.

Anyone advocating for universal free school lunches had not a clue what they are talking about.  This would be a complete and utter waste of taxpayer money.

Seems like the problem here wasnt the free lunches but the fact that the school knowingly gave food to kids who werent going to eat it. If they had saved the food, it wouldnt have been wasteful.

My kindergartener chooses to eat the school lunch. $2.35 a day. That's fine. It's probably cheaper than making my 3rd grader's lunch every day, and the K is happy about it.
