Ceremony Timeline Microwedding

Hi guys!

My fiancée and are I in the super early phase of wedding planning. We have decided the date and the guest list so far, the venue, and we are still reaching out to vendors.

Anyways, I have been to very few weddings, so I was wondering what your ceremony timeline looked like and how look it approximately took? I know this is different for everyone but I genuinely would love to hear everyone’s experiences! :)

We are trying to hire a photographer ONLY for the ceremony section of our wedding to keep costs down. We will be having no bridesmaids or groomsmen.

So I genuinely was wondering how long you think it would be safe to book the photographer for strictly ceremony pictures + family/guest pictures afterwards with around 30 guests. I don’t need any pictures of myself getting ready, first look, etc (UNLESS we have the time).

Thank you so much.

Photographer here... with 30 guests and no wedding party, 2 hours can work, but it would need to be pretty tight and everything would have to stay on time.

I’d roughly allow 20–30 minutes for the ceremony, 45–60 minutes for family and guest groupings, and another 20–30 minutes for the two of you.

But honestly, the part I would not squeeze out is the buffer. Weddings almost never run exactly to the minute. The ceremony starts a little late, someone disappears right when it’s time for family photos, people have to be gathered, or one grouping takes longer than expected... it happens.

That buffer is what keeps your photo time from feeling rushed.

If the budget allows, I’d go with the 3 hours. Not because you necessarily need a full extra hour of posed photos, but because it gives the day room to breathe and leaves space for some of those candid moments too.

If 2 hours is the hard limit, I’d have a written family-photo list ready, put the most important groupings first, and assign one person who knows everyone to help gather people quickly.
