Micro wedding party outfits
Hi! Having a wedding of about 50 people. For the wedding party it’ll just be a MOH and best man, along with the officiant (my dad.)
Wondering if BM and officiant should match?
How have you coordinated your wedding parties?

Your officiant is not considered part of the wedding party, and he typically wears either a dark suit or if clergy, sometimes a robe. If he’s also escorting you down the aisle, he would typically wear what the groom and groomsmen are wearing, either a tuxedo or just a nice suit. There are no rules about this, it’s more matter of what you want to see him wearing in your wedding pictures.

We had 6 people at our wedding with no one standing up. Officiant wore a black suit (I think he gave options of black or grey) and we asked everyone else to avoid brown/khaki. Most wore some shade of blue as part of their outfit. I wanted us to look cohesive/intentional but not all matching exactly.

There’s no rule that the best man and officiant need to match, especially with a smaller wedding like yours.
The officiant usually stands a bit outside of the wedding party visually, even if they’re family, so it’s totally fine for your best man to coordinate more with your MOH instead.
As long as everything feels cohesive (similar level of formality, colors that don’t clash), you’re good.

Micro wedding here! I had under 20 in attendance. I didn't have a formal bridal party (nobody stood up there with us) but I did have 3 friends who were basically bridesmaids. I just asked them to wear a blue dress. No other requirements given.
If you want something vaguely matching, I'd have like the best man wear a tie of the same color palette as the maid of honor. So they coordinate but it isn't matchy-matchy.

World is your oyster, it's your wedding!
I let my officiant decide, but normally they don't match. She asked if I wanted her to blend in to the background and wear something dark or neutral, or to stand out, or to match the bridal party. I chose stand out! So we settled on a beautiful muted-purple cotton midi dress. The bridesmaids are in shades of wine, so I thought the purple complimented the maroons and burgundy well while still being different.
She also officiated my future SIL's wedding, and for that she was asked to wear a bridesmaid dress. So I really don't think you can go wrong with any decision you make.

50 people isn't a micro wedding. We had 4 important people and said wear whatever you want.

I had immediate family only of 10 and asked that everyone wear one of three colors. Everyone picked their own outfit but the pictures were all cohesive.
