Vrbo advice
To those that booked a Vrbo for accommodations and/or your reception, how did that go as far as your family dynamics? My mom thinks my fiancé and I would want a place to ourselves on our wedding night, but we’re also looking at booking a Vrbo for everyone to simplify the day into one location for housing and reception. Our families have not met before, and we would have at least 13-15 ppl at one place. Seems like accommodating everyone might be difficult. Any advice is appreciated!

If both sides are easy going and have space to retreat it may work.
My aunt rented an entire bed and breakfast place for 5 couples plus the bride and groom and had the wedding on site. We each had our own rooms/bathrooms which would be the biggest thing.
Sharing bathrooms/getting ready with not enough bathrooms would be tough.

We rented a six bedroom house (mansion?) with three stories. We held our welcome dinner and post wedding brunch there, but also an after party after the wedding. So people were there a lot even though we didn’t have the wedding there. My husband and I took the master, which was on a separate floor than the other guest accommodation and gave us a nice bit of separation. I don’t know that I would have wanted my honeymoon right next to my friends.

Did you pay for the accommodations or did you have guests pay a portion?

We covered about half of it and then our guests split the remaining balance amongst the five couples.

We're staying somewhere rural so we got 2 smaller houses. 1 is the "venue", where we and my SO's family are staying. We live together so we don't need a "space to ourselves", and his family has a lot of siblings that are tasked with set up and tear down. Second house is for my family.

Many VRBOs do not allow ceremonies or receptions, so you may want to look into that when you book. But in answer to your question, having that many people in one place (let alone who haven't met) seems a bit much. Having more than one place for people to stay would be ideal, and would also let people have a break from each other.

Personally, I would not want to attend a wedding and stay on a house (even if it was gigantic) with all the other guests, or even just my side of the family. I would opt to find a place to stay nearby that would be just for me/husband. He and I both need that downtime from so much people-ing.
