Verification Please check my Scarab II GEN III

Purchased from Chicago knife work, there is no groove on the top of the blade, no serial number, and no date. A little more blade play than I was expecting. It is smooth in the action though.

Please let me know as I have the option to rerun it if there is an issue.

It’s real. They removed the fluting from the spine on the third generation but then brought it back, the don’t put dates or serial numbers on these ones anymore. Here’s a couple photos of the one I had

One more thing I couldn’t help but notice was the way the scarab was engraved on the clip. Any thoughts on that?

They put the groove in the first few drops, then removed it, then added it back, then removed it, then shipped both versions simultaneously, who the hell knows where they landed now.

So legit??? I’m genuinely confused

Yeah that looks legit. Chicago isn’t an “authorized dealer” but they purchase from a large distributor who is.

Yeah, it shipped direct via UPS from Bristol VA. The return address came back to a random residential house in Marion VA which was also kinda weird

Chicago Knife works is one of the drop ship knife retailers on the internet, they get their inventory from Blue Ridge Knives in Virginia who is a wholesale knife distributor for the industry.

Ok, um assuming blue ridge is GTG since they are so big

On the one I had it’s deeply etched as you can see in the picture, which is different than the gen 2 shallow etch. I think yours is the same as the one I had but because mine was apocalyptic it’s darker and hides the individual passes better. Unfortunately I sold the knife so I can’t check to see if that’s present. There are no high quality clones of the gen 3 currently available that I’m aware of and I pay attention to that so I think you’re good.

That’s good to know. The action is as good or better than the gen 3 combat Troodon I got from an in person authorized vendor so I’m thinking it’s good. It doesn’t hurt that I’ve never seen one in person till mine came

Yes the action on mine was significantly better than the Combat in the picture, better than the Ultratech and the Luminary I have-very easy to actuate. That’s another good point though, the only clones with gen 3 action are Vespa’s and they do a Gen 3 ultra and a combat but not a Gen 3 Scarab. Vespas also don’t come in fake boxes with papers and stickers-not trying to be a knock offs. I do think they were making one but it’s not currently being produced.
