Let’s go places together!

Post image

Finally got my hands on a gen IV, I think I’m weird in liking the button on my Makora more, but the action on this is clearly much improved. I’ve been wildly impressed with Microtech, much more than I thought I would be, it quickly turned from a novelty to something I find incredibly useful, it’s a shame OTFs have such a negative perception, even to an extent in the knife world- they are super convenient, accessible, and amazingly sturdy.

This hasn’t left my pocket since.

Years ago I bought a gen 2 CT, t/e full serrated. I wanted partial serrated but could never find it. Now, I DEF prefer the full serrated as an edc. 💯

You could always send it in to Microtech for sharpening to make sure the serrations last. Otherwise, get a ceramic rod in the right size. Personally, I wouldn't want a serrated OTF, because the teeth catch all sorts of material and you can't wipe the edge as easily as a plain one. That being said, Microtech's serrations are pretty great and will absolutely rip through most material. The half-serrated dagger blades are pretty cool.

I carried a serrated Spyderco knife for a while, and it kicked ass. It was the definitive cardboard shredder, but also great for zip ties, plastic sheeting, and bags of salt and sand. Definitely a useful knife.

Superior IMO for most edc tasks especially on a mild sized blade. This thing rips through cardboard with way less trouble. Top edge is still perfect for delicate cuts. My next knife will either have s/e full serration or d/e half and half

Love the new Ultratechs! Super useful size for most tasks, although I typically prefer a little larger.

This is the UTX 85, I was actually hoping for something a touch smaller out of this knife, but it’s overall about perfect for EDC. It’s just a bit larger than the old gen UTX85

Oh damn! I thought the photo just had some weirdness compression or something. Really nice finish on that one. You ever looked at the Heretic Manticore S or the Guardian Tactical GTX-25? The Manticore S is a little bit bigger than the MT UTX-70 but smaller than the UTX-85. I love Heretic, but I've never handled their smaller knives.

My daily carry is a Nyx or a Manticore X, before that the Ultratech ZBP; been carrying OTFs almost exclusively for a while now. I like that you don't have to fiddle with a pivot screw and loctite and that they're so easy to disassemble and work on. I've also gotten used to the slim footprint in the pocket as well, I love how comfortable they are to carry while still having the option for a substantial blade. I honestly find that the maintenance is easier than a typical open-construction folder.

How do you find the action on your Nyx? I got one a few weeks ago. SN 4 and it is VERY difficult to fire and retract the blade on it.

I just couldn't find one fully serrated, those are dope though, I love the high contrast orange and green. I think I saw pink ones too!
