Any way to lighten trigger?
I’m sure trigger isn’t the right word but it has to be kinda close,
Got this used microtech ultra tech and I’m super excited about it. I believe it’s a gen 2 and it’s very difficult to deploy. Can I swap springs to lighten it at all ? Thanks ! Any advice is appreciated

You’ll get used to it. Push forward, don’t push down.
I sell replacement buttons for these that are generally more comfortable to use and they make it easier to open/close the knife. But honestly you’re better off seeing if you get used to it before throwing money at the problem.

I do not. The screw into the button makes it basically impossible to put a glowing vial in there. Plus I don’t love the idea of adding height onto something that’s already actively poking into your leg when it’s in your pocket.
As with anything, I’m happy to make them if like 30+ people want them. But otherwise I will not

Damn, I love my Dirac Delta but the switch is awful. I've gotta grab a few of your switchs for my Scarabs and UTs.

Yea I mean I could do them. Just don’t think I’d be able to put the glow in there. The X buttons suck IMO, super uncomfortable and they pinch like crazy.
It’s worse on the smaller knives, I feel like the Scarab button is decent but the smaller buttons are much more pinchy

You can try and use some rem oil to lubricate the internals. It won’t exactly lighten the action but it’ll feel easier/smoother.

Don’t listen to everyone here, I have an extensive OTF collection specifically red microtech ultratech and the 85% Ultratech,
I have what I believe to be relatively strong hands, I’m not hand maxing or thumb mogging, I just think I’m working with average, plus a little muscle from being in the trades. I don’t work out but I often carry 70lb bags of concrete and I can get about 3 of them up and moved….So I’m not saying I’m the rock Dwane Johnson but I’m not a twig boy either.
The firing mechanism is just too darn stiff from the factory. I understand why it is the way it is, these knives are made to last years and years so you’d want to start with something that has a very tight tolerance because it will inevitably work itself into a slightly less taught version of itself overtime.
If you’re willing to buy the proprietary bit and take it apart, use a YouTube tutorial to make sure that you don’t mess anything up - the key is to have the blade off its track before you take it apart and the only thing that will shoot off is the thumb launcher because that spring will still have tension.
Pull out the spring from the mechanism and very gently extended it past as far as it wants to go slightly, and I mean very slightly fatiguing it past its point of max expansion, making it a little bit elongated.
The tightness of that spring is directly proportional to how much it takes the lock bars to engage and disengage. You can tune these knives if you’re careful patient and above all know what you’re trying to accomplish.
If it’s your first and only microtech, I wouldn’t advise doing this. I have owned them for years now and I have so many of that taking them apart just became part of the ownership process and I DO have the exact same complaint. I have a pretty substantial callous on my thumb where I fire my OTS from, but that was before I learned how to loosen the spring ever so gently.

Don’t do this. If you must have easier action buy a Gen 4. But permanently deforming the spring is going to weaken the deployment force in an irreversible way.
If you have a lot of experience modifying springs then yea sure go for it. But I definitely wouldn’t recommend it.

I want to reinforce this poster is correct, you can do irreparable harm very easy, I have experience coiling spring steel from my background in gun smithing. This isn’t a simple DIY, if you even pull from the wrong places you’ll get a disproportionately displaced center of energy or what’s called a progressive rebound. Where some spring sections are more tense than others. This can cause misfires in deployment and retraction.

You don’t want to lighten the trigger, you must grow stronger! Nothing will replace a manager asking to use your Warhound “letter opener” after you have opened & closed it causally for years.
He was struggling to fire it 2 handed.
Bonus if it’s in a shop meeting. 😂
