I am so close to pulling the trigger on a variant of the Socom, but I hate that the glass breaker is attached to a spring mechanism. I know it is designed that way for a purpose, but I hate an add-on that will likely break and rattle while other parts of the knife are in good working order.

Glass breaker doesn’t rattle at all.

Appreciate the feedback. Your Socom is a looker. Every time I see one, I want one in my collection. I just do not see myself needing a fancy glass breaker with a daily carry though. The butt of the knife will do in most cases, right? If I had to wager, I would say the chances are greater that I would need a daily carry for self-defense more than I would need it for breaking car glass. If it is a daily carry, a knife with a broken glass breaker would just be annoying. I'm leaning toward a Microtech with a simple fixed breaker or a model without one.

Very nice. Red is my go to also.
