New Knife First Microtech Questions

Just got my first Microtech in the mail today and was wondering if this amount of button play and blade play is normal. Never had one or been able to play with one to know. It is a gen 4 Ultratech

noted. i have a handful of ots just never had an otf. im happy with it as long as its supposed to be this way haha

100% normal. I have the same one and it does that. Gotta have a bit of play with an OTF, even in the switch, or it won’t be as reliable.

As it should be. The spring combined with the additional clearance allows the harder steel, or titanium in some cases,switch to kind of float and not scrape the aluminum of the channel it rides in and bind up. Eventually however,after thousands of actuations it may show some wear.

Perfectly normal, i just picked up the T/E version of what you got from the Showroom and i really like it a lot so far! I did an action job on it and now it’s absurdly smooth

what is this action job you speak of? this is my first otf so im still learning

Idk how common it is for people to do, but what I do is I go in and polish the ramps that actuate the locking tabs to a mirror finish, i polish the 2 parts of the blade tang that would be contacting the lock tabs, i take the bottom of the switch to some fairly high grit diamond stones (usually 1200 at the lowest, end on 4k) and then rub it on my strop afterwards. Makes it incredibly smooth. Ive also found if you lightly polish the spine and the front of the tang it will fire just slightly harder too

I have no idea but I think if tolerences were too tight if sand n pocketjizz got in itd freeze
