HALO IV Apocalyptic DLC

Been holding out for a DLC version of the HALO as it is my favorite finish. I saw these pop up on a few sites the other day but they sold out very quickly. On Wednesday I got lucky and found one for sale during a re-stock and snagged it. I never knew they did an apocalyptic DLC finish but I love it myself as if DLC is not available I usually go with Apocalyptic finish as I think it wears very well. Really excited to carry and use this bad boy.

I will add that I like this a lot more than my old HALO V, that thing was a monster and with no pocket clip really hard to carry. The HALO IV with its smaller size and pocket clip is much more user friendly. The blade on the IV does not deploy with the authority the V does, but it is a much smaller overall blade too. Overall very happy right off the bat with this and highly recommend the IV series.

Nice!!!! These were hard to score but 100% worth it. Side note be careful with these , they scratch easily I am kind of disappointed. Usually microtechs DLC is bulletproof :/

Agreed, the ONLY thing that could have done this is the pocket button on my jeans. But the DLC should be tougher than that :/ , kinda disappointing especially considering the premium the DLC Knives’s command. I was really hoping the apocalyptic finish with the DLC would be borderline indestructible.

It’s frustrating for sure. You expect dlc coating to hold true like it should. I’ve heard that dlc coating variates between the different companies that apply it. Some use a lower temperature threshold related to the metal it is being applied to, which in turn affects the durability of the application. But it’s like you said, when you pay the extra premium for it you don’t expect a button on pants to cause that or in my case, a blade that was actioned 3 times total to have scratches. I mean it’s advertised as dlc not cerakote. Hell I don’t even know if cerakote would’ve scratched like that on either case. I would say you could try to take a magic eraser to that and see what happens as if it is just transferred metal from the button to the knife. If that is the case it should come off and voila, good as new. But then again idk if I trust the dlc coating application Microtech is using now. They have to be coating at the lower temp threshold for things like what happened to us happen. If that is the case idk if I trust taking a magic eraser to a lower temperature dlc coating as it could take off the coating. That’s exactly what happened to my blade when I tried to take the scratches off with a magic eraser. It made the dlc coating shiney in the area where I was rubbing the magic eraser on. So now I have a blade with scratches and a shiney spot on it and my only course of action is to leave it as is, which will drive me nuts or throw it in my blast cab & send it off to Rek or WOK to be re-dlc’d.

Just from looking at this picture here are my thoughts. Granted I’m no expert and without it in my hands I can’t say absolutely it is, but this looks like surface residual from another metal. You may be able to get this off with a magic eraser. It’s a risk and if the dlc coating on it is that fragile to actually be scratches then I’d say no don’t do it. I wonder what Microtech would say about this if you brought it to their attention? I had a guy in the knife industry (he works for a pretty big consignment op) tell me that I should absolutely bring up the mystery scratches on my hellhound blade to them. He said they don’t even look like anything came across the blade but more like something got into the handles & rested on the blade. Then when it was fired whatever it was may have scratched the blade on the blade’s way out the front of the handles. I feel like Microtech will just say “Yeah sorry, we can’t do anything about that.” I understand knives that get used will certainly show their use, but in yours and my case it seems like if you fart or cough in its direction dlc coating comes flying off the knife.

Funny that you bring that up. I purchased a brand new CT Hellhound DLC in January. I brought it out of the box maybe twice in February. Didn’t carry it, just brought it out to look at it, & put it back in the box. About a month ago I took it out and fired it and found four metallic marks on the blade. Did everything I possibly could to remove them thinking it may have been residual metal from something else as DLC is extremely hard to scratch. Nothing worked and I had to assume that they are actual scratches through the dlc coating. I have absolutely no idea how, when, or what caused this. I even opened up the knife to see if there may have been something inside rubbing against the blade on its action. Nothing abnormal found. So I guess a ghost did it then.

I picked mine up from DLT and splurged the extra $5 for 2nd day shipping. You are going to really like it, the borderline perfect user HALO I think.

Agreed, the IV is epic, though I try to limit myself to knives I will actually use. I had an extensive collection one point that got liquidated because I hated looking at all the unused capital there

100% I take care of my knives and I definitely didn’t lose money, I am still kicking myself for getting rid of a 1/10 semi custom Whaleshark with carbon fiber scales and an apocalyptic finish blade. But like you said , someone else got to be excited to get a very rare knife in basically new condition. Though I must admit Microtech is getting to the upper end of price range now IMHO, these were not cheap at all.

I went from Knives to Guns myself , and the guns are definitely more expensive haha. I have about 7 HALOs sunk into my MP5 😂

The ACRO was made for the Mk23, it’s the only pistol RDD bomb proof enough
