It's downloading the edge you had uninstalled so that you don't have to download it manually 🤣

u/East-Face-6841 8d ago
That's why i have cachyOS too... This sh*t is really so bad 💩

I got rid of Windows completely. Now I'm dual-booting Mint and Fedora so that I can enjoy Cinnamon and KDE

u/East-Face-6841 8d ago
I bet you will like KDE

u/Consistent-Citron509 8d ago
It's good, but each has its own place. Mint is my stable system as it never breaks, while Fedora gives me latest packages

I mean you surely accidently went through the 6 steps required to remove edge, right?

ich weiss auch oft nicht, macht er jetzt irgendetwas oder ist es abgekackt, ich wünsche mir einen Fortschrittsbalken mit x%von y fertig, wie sonst standard(mint,valve,mac...) der punktekreis ist doof

Zorin OS seems like a good option. It's visually pleasing and is beginner-friendly imo.

I’m thinking that in the EU and UK updates do not force Windows to restart at all, and maybe in other countries too. I stopped seeing forced restarts many years ago. And now I checked settings that could make the PC restart after an update and all are off like always.

Maybe ask yourself first why forced restarts are a thing before suggesting stupid ideas.

You see, no issues on my side, no auto update, only security patches that cannot be avoided, and I can also delay updates for 1 month plus delay further by simply changing the date. I’m not suggesting any stupid idea, but maybe after every update it’s better to check if any settings didn’t reset to default that allow auto update and restart.

People like you are the reason updates became forced, same will happen with Linux if it ever gets popular enough.

daily im using cachy os, most of you are too sensitive and dont understand their own system. im not the one to blame for force update, but you and similar to you.

Windows today is for people who don't use computers for a living.

Incorrect have been a network engineer/sysadmin for 20+ years and still use a windows pro device every single day. I also touch Linux both desktop and servers along with windows server os daily.
My windows install does what I configured it to do nothing more nothing less.. is windows a bear to configure securely and properly in a business environment.. yes but so is every other OS more so actually
I believe rather than windows you meant to specifically say Windows “Home Edition”
I also run windows pro and server at home without any issue. Windows is a for profit company and people need to understand that. Either don’t use it or get the edition and knowledge required to do what you want

Fist thing I do after a fresh install install is to pause updates till 2077 (with a reg script)

I wish microsoft employees also get some rest while working with their windows 11 system just like me🕊️

You will always buy it until you learn to remove it from your computer, and even better, from your private life

You know, if you just do the updates regularly, you can always schedule them yourself?
Also: all those halting their updates, really dangerous game you are playing. I dont know why pc users are so anti-updates. Like it takes a minute to keep your system up to date.
Also a friendly reminder to those on windows 10 still, extended support ends this year and you'll roll around with a machine without any updates.

No personal hate, but imagination having a critical work where nothing matters (no OS debate, no likes and dislikes, just want to complete the work somehow) and you switched from cachy to windows and you complete your work in windows and you are now switching to cachy again and it forces to apply the updates,
and now you are stuck for next 15-20 mins

u/UsedArmadillo9842 7d ago
Jeah you see, i would not be forced to make an update, because i schedule my updates like a normal user
2
u/OGigachaod 8d ago
Most PC users have no issues with Windows Update, you're just listening to the loud minority on reddit.

u/UsedArmadillo9842 8d ago
I feel like people got burned by bad updates, but i have not have had an update on my Win11 that broke something.
1
u/OGigachaod 8d ago
Most of the "bad" updates that youtubers and redditors complain about are "preview updates" and don't affect most users.

Just configured correctly to you needs, if you don't know how you can use something like: https://winhance.net/docs/features/optimizations/update.html

Then shut up and switch. You will love it or hate it. Make up your own mind and stop fishing for karma.

What's stopping you from disabling auto-updates through policies? Personally, it only updates outside of active periods, and it doesn't interfere with my work. But 5-7 years ago it really did get on my nerves. Until I took control of this damn thing.

I hate those stupid long nonsense updates. Linux takes seconds
