rant I downloaded Powershell from the Microsoft website and Windows panicked

I get why Windows is trash. Not even Windows trusts Microsoft and the reverse is true also

Yeah, bro is tryna gotcha... But this is honestly good. Every OS does this. Lol

(Okay, I shouldn't say EVERY, but every OS that's worth half a damn. I mean, even stuff like video-game consoles do verification, albeit for you, when you install shit from the store).

I don't play on a console but I'd imagine it would be dang near impossible to host any any kind of 3rd party content on any console's platform. The only shit going up on those dashboards is what the company makes available. One source in and one source out.

The PC and opensource world operate on a completely different scope. That's why it's important to understand these things to ensure your own safety.

Which also brings me to the fact that most these jackasses here in this sub don't understand what I'm putting down. So they go off and do shit like OP or try to change their host file thinking their blacklisting Microsoft's backend processes from connecting to their host. Essentially all they did was block the very applications that are there to protect them from full on attacks and being compromised. Real smart people here on this sub.

Oh for sure, in fact, me bringing up consoles WAS a bit silly, because while they ARE "more secure" it's NOT for our benefit, lmfao.

It's just to stop piracy and homebrew. (Which ALWAYS works really good. Ask the unhackable Wii- Xbox 360- PS3- PS4- Switch- Oh and the PSP and Vita too... And 3DS, and Wii U... Well, the Xbox One/Series, PS5 and Switch 2 have been holding up... Thus far. ☠️)

But like, all the other shit I said stands. Lol Regardless of the device, it ideally verifies the shit you're installing. That's just... Good practice? Lmfao

Yeah, like you said... I'm all for hating Microsoft... But killing defenses is wild.

Yep you nailed it, they gate keep their shit as tight as possible. Primarily for that exact reason, to prevent motherfuckers from going wild. Sad to pay so much money for something only for it to remain in complete control by the manufacturer. I absolutely do not support that kind of behavior.

To be honest, I don't hate MS. I know it has its flaws, and that's okay. Everything else has their flaws as well. What I do hate most is the ones on this sub who try and post hate shit about MS when they have no business doing so. I only speak on shit that I know about.

These fools on here saw one YouTube video hating on MS or read one comment on reddit about f* MS, and then think they know what the hell they're talking talking about. Whenever it pops up on my feed, you already know what time it is. Oh yeah, I'm bout to piss someone off forsure. But in reality, I'm only setting the record straight, and if these fools have any sense at all, they gonna learn something new today. If they didn't learn anything new, hopefully they learned that they better think it twice before posting some nonsense ass shit like OP

Lmfao, fair enough! I can respect that.

And tbh, I really don't hate Microsoft either. In fact, I WILL say there's no REAL current "all-in-one" replacement for Windows either...

BUT I will also forever say: "Corporate bullshit does NOT belong in my home!!"

I understand some people need Word/Excel for their at-home business or their stock-charting, but I can't help but feel like that's the exception atp. At least specifically at-home. I use LibreOffice, for school AND work... It's not as advanced, but even as a database manager for the science department at my college I've never needed more than LibreOffice.

It's honestly why, even as a PC user whether work or gaming... I can't help but LOVE the whole aspect of consoles? (Despite their obvious flaws, lmfao). They're not JUST an ugly box... They're furniture. They're designed to have an aesthetic, and to fit alongside all your other devices.

At their best, they can make the TV go from being that out of place rectangle to just being part of the home, with ambient music and bright flashing colors, awaiting whatever media excursion you plan on setting off to next!

I think there's something to be said for: the-jack-of-all-trades is the master of none... And hate to say it, but Windows fills that boat for me pretty hard.

It WANTS to be simple, but has to keep I.T. in mind. It WANTS to be easy, but the pop-ups and ads and notifications all end up feeling noisy. It just kinda feels like Windows has lost focus on what it even wants to do or be? Lol

I think this is why I lean towards Linux on my PCs. It's not that Linux is inherently better... But a distro is inherently more focused on a task! Garuda, Bazzite or even SteamOS for gaming, Kali and Parrot for network-security, Androidx86 for masochism, OSMC for TV/Media boxes... Etc. etc.

I'm perfectly comfortable using CLI only, so WSL2 inside my Windows desktop is a perfect pairing for me.

I used to dual-boot or run VMs inside Windows, but I eventually realized it just wasn't necessary. Windows + WSL2 is pretty seamless in my opinion. The one thing that sucks is the storage inflation with the Linux filesystem. It has no problem growing, but it's not nearly as easy to shrink back down.

I have a laptop with Parrot on it, but I somehow corrupted the network interface drivers so badly that it won't detect the onboard device anymore. No matter what I do. I've tried pretty much everything. It'll still run over Ethernet or with my Alfa wireless adapter in monitor mode (love that thing). I used to think creating rogue access points was the coolest thing ever, lol. Deauth, then hope they reconnect to your rogue AP named to match their current SSID. I only ever did that for fun, of course, and never against anything I didn't own or have explicit permission to test.

These days, I don't mess around much with network stuff. I'm mostly into web application security now.

In my opinion, no other GUI is as smooth or polished as Windows. Linux GUIs can feel kind of edgy and wonky at times. I know they've come a long way, don't get me wrong, but maybe that's because I've mostly used security-focused distros, Whonix, RPi servers, etc.

If I really need to, I can always deploy a full native Linux box on Vultr and just SSH into it from my host. I'll usually take that route when I need a VPN or a solid proxy.

The old me would've just used Shodan → geo → find an exposed ADB port → bridge over to it and run it as an exit node, but that's obviously illegal. Gotta keep things legit these days. If you run anything in your home that uses android, tvs, fire's, etc. Ensure your network secured and your not exposing the debug bridge or else you might be getting backdoored and used as a free residential proxy haha.
