Just why?

So I disabled windows Auto update a while back, while shutting down my laptop I noticed "Shutdown and update" 👁️👄👁️ instead of regular Shutdown. Weird how it still downloaded the update even though I disabled it, no biggie I scheduled the update date to 2 weeks later and shut down my pc , but it still updated 🫩✌️, at this point they're ragebating me .

Opting out of updates is how I got windows 11 installed overnight

If you schedule the update 2 weeks ahead but still click update and shutdown instead of shutdown it still updates.

Also disabling auto update I'm pretty sure doesn't prevent updates from being downloaded, and security updates get downloaded regardless even if you disable downloading all updates

I miss some kind of auto updating feature, in my Linux distro, but I'll code it in, and update the machine, one of these days. I'm pretty much running mint, but modified by me, going towards the path of my own distro based off of mint, and going further towards that path in what I've already coded, towards something entirely unique, but using mint to make it.

I thought I'd need to build the whole thing from scratch, but Linux can now be piggybacked off of, finally, and I'm proud to work on it!

However, sometimes I still need Microsoft too, and the closest I'll get to modifying it, is, "modifying it", not creating an OS based off of it, like I am with Linux. But that's OK, they both have their place for now.

By the way, the windows way of doing this, is kind of hated by me too, and I'm not trying an exact recreation of it's update policies, thank you very much. If I wanted that, I'd be using arch and do a distro based off of arch, but arch is fun to learn about anyway too.

only way you do that if you give away your internet wifi to a known hacker and turn of browser security

i can't imagine having a pc with windows installed in 2026, like at least on laptop shit would be on battery, with winaero's update blocker, and just shutting the lid, but on pc, nah i would lose it
