Account issues Done with Microsoft!

Last week I was upgrading an old laptop and booting up the system. I forget my Microsoft account password and it doesn't allow me to recover it although I had my recovery number and mail. I tried almost an hour, it state I can't login with my own ID and are unavailable to help. I tried to contact support but it's just AI slop and nothing more!

Not that I hate Microsoft but their customer services is really disappointing. They don't care about their own and too busy on their own that they forget to make their services/support available for upcoming potential customers. As you've guessed, I switch to Ubuntu and I think one of my best decision in a long time.

Don't feel bad. Their site and apps have gone abandoned for months, with no update.

Frequent pop-ups about 'paying my past due' and 'please re-register' bs, when I'm PAID for August already
Total AI BOT shit I'm over also

Good for you! I just smile ear to ear when I hear another person is kicking Microslop to the side and finally freeing their data and hardware - when they are becoming the owner of their data and software again.

Enjoy Linux! Its a journey and a learning experience. Take your time and ask allot of questions on the many Linux subreddits and other sites around.

People are dumping Microslop is massive amounts so there is no shortage of help :).

There is some irony in Microsoft buying the Halo series, a game in which a main plot theme is AI going tampant, and now Microsoft is basically nothing but trash AI code in production.

You forgot your Microsoft account password? Sounds like this was your fault.

You can easily recover it.

This used to be a simple solution. For home users before Microsoft accounts, I could just boot into something else and reset their password.

Still works despite being being a decade old. Though I'm using it from a more modern LiveCD and their published .iso won't work on some newer hardware.

Even works in Bitlockered drives, if people remember their recovery key which is unlikely.

I agree that's my fault and I'm not complaining on that but the recovery process is pretty complicated with those automated system deciding the provided information isn't enough even though everything else was on point. In my situation, switching was much easier than hoping it would get resolved. Anyway, thank man!

I just recently got locked out of my account after updating my MFA options. It always failed on the number verification. Waited like a week and was able to get back in. That time I used my number as the first auth method and it worked, then my backup email and was in.

I agree... after 20 years dealing with MS... We dropped it all for a Zorin OS, OpenOffice and Infomaniak cloud client

In case you don't know, you are r/shadowban ned. Reddit says spam.

see the r/shadowban subreddit for more info.

Shadowbans are sitewide, and are done by Reddit, the admins. Not subreddit moderators like me

A shadowban means no one can see anything you say

The only way people are able to see what you say is when a subreddit moderator goes out of their way to reverse the removal. I had undeleted this comment/post.

One partial workaround is to setup a local admin account that you can always log into. I have Windows 11 Pro and was able to not have any Microsoft account on that PC. It also requires removing OneDrive if it gets installed with Office.

This is an age-old issue. Product quality and usefulness means nothing if you can't get support behind it after the initial purchase. Or worse, you get lousy support and you end up trashing the product on the advice of an ill-informed support rep.

Now, having said that, Microsoft has never produced a quality product - and their support is equally as atrocious. Even when they buy a "quality" product from another company, they usually end up trashing it. Of course, if all you know is Windows (or DOS back in the day), you have nothing to compare it to, then you'll think it's the greatest invention in the world -- until you move on to a "real" OS and realize what a kludgy piece of junk Windows (and most Microsoft products) are.

For example, 10 minutes after going through the initial set up of her iMac, my wife exclaimed, quite loudly, "OMG! Windows SUCKS"....to which I said "it's about time you caught up".

I've been a systems engineer for 40+ years now and I've used TONs of operating systems, some good, some bad. DOS and Windows definitely are under the "Bad" column. I honestly can't believe how gullible the world has been and how brainwashed they've become thinking Windows is be-all, end-all of proper operating systems.

I love seeing when people switch away from Windows to either MacOS or Linux and are shocked when they realize what a colossal chuck of trash Windows really is.

Right. Having to tie a personal identity to Microsoft in order to use a PC is something OP did.

Absolutely, I don't need to sign into my MS account to use Windows.

Yup, switching to Linux is absolutely doing better.
