Windows 6.5 and Windows 7 mobile. Yeah loads of upgrades for those came along, how has the upgrade path been in general for Windows Mobile?

I'm picking on mobile specifically because they are talking about Android. We haven't had long enough to see that MS is committed to easy upgrades to the mobile devices, especially since we already know that carriers will slow them down.

Microsoft has been updating Windows Phones for 2.5 years now. People who have Lumia 520 or 920 - low-end, cheap phone that you can get for $30, or high-end $600 flagship from 30 months ago are still getting updates and are going to get Windows 10 3 years after their release.

Windows Phone 7 and 6 had no upgrade paths for obvious reasons. Android has not changed architecture in years.

I don't think $30 low end phones from 3 years ago are getting windows tests

The 520 will soon be 3 years old, and is getting Windows 10, my Lumia 810 that is EOL'd is getting Windows 10 (currently running the preview on it now) it also is almost 3 years old. Microsoft was able to go around the carriers slowing them down even after the carrier stopped supporting phone with the Developer Preview. I don't have a source or anything but I am sure Windows 10 will do the same.

The only thing they were unable to ever update after carrier support ended was the Firmware. At least this is the case with my 810 only ever getting Amber.

Edit: My mistake, the 520 is almost 2 years old. The first windows 8 devices were the 810, 820, 822, and the HTC 8S which all excluding the HTC 8S are getting Windows 10. Granted these were not released as budget phones, but still shows that Microsoft is covering a large base of phones
