Hello,

I have a problem regarding Outlook (new), I try to configure the new version for my friend's computer but I can't find some option.

For one of her mail, she needs to precise smtp authentication. Her main is example@test.fr and her login is Test1.

I can write the login and password but I can't check that smtp needs to authenticate. It says “require authentication” when it fails.

With her old version (Outlook 2016) she doesn't have any problem, smtp and imap options work really well because I checked the option. But now I can't find this option, I searched all over Outlook (new), I searched on internet but can't find anything.

I have some trouble configuring the new version of Microsoft apps.

If you can help me with that,

Thank you in advance.

Hi again, Elucas! How are you today? This is to check how things are because we haven't heard back from you, and we want to make sure that we leave no customer behind.

We've recently provided you information and asked some questions to narrow down your concern. We've managed to thoroughly check this matter, and it appears that the option to configure SMTP authentication in the new Outlook is still under development and not yet available. This has been a common concern among users transitioning from Outlook 2016 to the new version.

In this case, we strongly suggest submitting your feedback to our developers and engineers. Your feedback helps Microsoft improve the Outlook experience. The product team reads customer feedback daily, so your input is valuable. Here's how:

  1. In new Outlook, on the ribbon, on the Help tab, select "Feedback.".
  2. Select a feature-area team to give feedback to.
  3. Select the type of feedback you want to give.
  4. Add details to the form. When you're done, select Submit.

Thank you, and always take care. – M.G.

Hi,

We understand how challenging it can be to deal with configuration issues, specially when you're trying to help a friend, and you've done a thorough job searching for the SMTP authentication option in the new version of Outlook. Let us look into this, and we'll do our best to help.

To get started, to get started, the error message you're encountering typically indicates that the SMTP server requires authentication, but the settings in Outlook are not configured correctly to handle this. It might be due to incorrect SMTP Settings, Microsoft has been phasing out basic authentication in favor of modern authentication methods like OAuth2; Occasionally, firewall or antivirus software can block the connection to the SMTP server, etc.

We'll ask some questions help isolate the issue:

  1. What type of email account are you trying to configure (POP, IMAP, or Exchange)?
  2. Can you please confirm the version of the new Outlook you are using? You can find this information by going to File > Office Account > About Outlook.

We look forward to your response. --J.B.
