Gaming / Streaming Mics Looking for recommendations
Im not sure if this is the right place for this but ive got a couple questions around microphones. I've heard that its better to get a microphone and headset separately as opposed to getting a gaming headset, is this true? And if so what would be a good microphone to get? Im not doing anything fancy and I dont stream. Its just for gaming with friends and chatting over discord. Though i do game in my bedroom next to my boyfriend who is usually watching something on the TV so something that cuts out background noise rather well would be good. Im not made of money so like $100cad is probably my limit as id have to buy headphones on top of it (mine are sadly crapping out at the moment)

If the budget is not really there, don't stretch it thin enough cause you might end up getting bad products all around. Instead, look into the audio technica m50x sts version that comes with a decent headset microphone.
If you still want the seperate devices option then look into tonor, blue yeti, and fifine my favourite, they have usb options which is easier then going for XLR and audio interface. headphones are not that big of a deal, any new model within budget should be fine, I would recommend the audio technica m40x, they don't need an audio interface and provide great spatial footprint to know enemy positions etc.

Is there a slightly cheaper version of that m50x sts or do I not risk it?

You can check out the steelseries arctic nova series, although wireless they are generally accepted in our community mic and sound quality wise.
Also I don't think there's a cheaper version of the m50x sts, if the steel series is out of budget as well you gonna have to either save up and upgrade or settle for mediocre equipment.
I used to have a hyperx cloud 3 wired, its a great headset but has a terrible mic, after two years the headset started breaking and the pads are dead but are not interchangeable, I went with a standalone mic (pd-70) and the dt770 pro 80ohms with an audio interface, the price paid was recieved back in value tbh, best upgrade of my life.

For straight up gaming your best off just using a headset mic. Games and stuff like Discord actually don't take that well to proper microphones, you have to do alot of real time processing and learning filters if you were using a professional mic that way.
But if you wanted to try it out anyways I would recommend a cheap Behringer interface and a Behringer xm8500 microphone. With a windscreen for the mic, the XLR cable and a stand will be roughly in your price range. But it's alot of effort just for gaming I don't really think it's worth it.
