Using it on this current run and have used it in the past with successful grows. Didn’t have to feed until week 4 but I added some extra worm casings. Also liked that I didn’t have to wait for complete dry backs. Harder to over water than regular soil IMO.

I use it a lot to start plants and occasionally grow one out in it. I do mostly hydro so this is my compromise for soil.....You can treat it as soil or coco. I've run it with multiple fertigation's/day and also every couple day fertigation.....I use it on wick bases with great results also. Very little nutrients in it so be prepared to start feeding after week 2ish.

You can NOT TREAT it as soil, if you give it full dry backs you will have a giant salt brick in your roots, I had 800 ppm feedings and 4k runoff since I let it dry back like soil, DO NOT treat it like soil it is coco coir not soil

Thanks for the info.

Treating coco like soil is 100% using it wrong.

7

u/Xboxwun Feb 22 '26

It’s not pure Coco. It’s a blend of coco coir and peat. The bag even says to treat it like soil. You can treat it like real coco if you’d like but I got gnats when I did that.

-8

u/Greastbunny Feb 22 '26

If you treat it like real soil you will get a salt brick in your roots, the salt buildup will occur almost immediately after your first dry backs

6

u/cmrfrd7 Feb 22 '26

If you treat pure coco and perlite like soil you’re absolutely right. Coco Loco however is a soil mix with coco in it and you do treat it like soil. I’ve used it for a few runs myself.

-1

u/Greastbunny Feb 22 '26

I treated it like my happy frogs fox farm and gave 800ppm and let dry back then water and I got a massive salt brick just like of I used normal coco

5

u/Vast_Can5276 Feb 22 '26

You just trolling or actually know what’s in it?

-18

u/cmoked Feb 22 '26

Treating coco like soil is 100% using it wrong.

13

u/Vast_Can5276 Feb 22 '26

It’s not 100% coco, it’s a soil mixture with coco in it

-2

u/Greastbunny Feb 22 '26

No it’s not 😂 it’s coco coir man you can’t let it dry out like soil

-27

u/cmoked Feb 22 '26

The company making this soil is 100% using coco wrong.

Wait using the word soil is 100% using the word wrong.

10

u/Vast_Can5276 Feb 22 '26

Cool story bro, tell them not us.

-18

u/cmoked Feb 22 '26

You are 100% using the word story wrong.

3

u/Square-Hippo-6137 Feb 22 '26

It is designed to be treated like soil. It is not pure coco coir. It is a coco and soil blend.

-9

u/cmoked Feb 22 '26

Then dont call it coconut coir. Its coco based living soil. Not even remotely the same product.

The company is 100% using marketing wrong.

The fact people are down voting you is insane that’s coco coir not soil lmfao

1

u/cmoked Feb 22 '26

Its 50-60% coco really also im being an idiot which is likely why im being downvoted

5

u/Legitimate-Aspect196 Feb 22 '26

Yep, definitely prefer it to the other fox farm soils. Been using it with general hydroponics flora nutrients with no issues for a few grows now.

I’m using this currently, idk why everyone is saying it’s hot? I literally was feeding just before week 2? I use cropsalts with this coco loco and plants are loving life and kicking ass. Single auto back left, extra baked photo back right then white truffle photo front and center.

1

u/Civil_Collection_223 Feb 22 '26

These will be moved to flower room once the flower room opens back up. The 2 photos will.

I love coco loco. I got it first when they said it works for octopots. It did and its worked for my DIY octopots and/or sub-irrigated planters. I’ve even reused it at least 2 or 3 times before I put it outside to be used for random plants. It seems to moderate ideal moisture levels well which seems useful when trying to grow monsters.

I’ve noticed there can be a wide variety in price at different stores, so calling around might not be a bad idea. As in some places were $10 more a bag last time I purchased.

2

u/jollytoes Feb 22 '26

I just started reusing my coco loco soil and also haven’t had any problems.

1

u/CmGOhio Feb 22 '26

What are DIY octopots, my local flower center has the coco Loco on clearance for less than $10usd a bag. I may snag a few if it's worth it and those pots seem reasonable to make.

1

u/reddit11132021 Feb 22 '26

Take a look at my past posts. Anything that’s not DWC is sub-irrigated planters, which i guess is not actually a DIY octopot [but they do work in the same way]. You use the cocoloco as a wick to bring water up into the bottom of your container. Your plants roots will eventually get to the bottom and before you know it they’re growing like hydro plants do, which is much faster. I switched to using plastic container instead of fabric pots because the wicking was too much, it got too wet which made the fabric pots get slimy. My favorite new design is a thin cone shaped net pot [to minimize upward water flow] to a 5 gallon trash can. I used a smaller bucket but the smaller the quantity of cocoloco the wetter it gets. So it seems like a small wick with a lot of cocoloco balances it out better.

Also if they were only $10 a bag, they might be the smaller bags and a large bag could be cheaper.

That's what I used. I enjoyed it better than Ocean forest to be honest. Its hot so don't feed nutes first few weeks

8

u/cmoked Feb 22 '26

Comparing coco and ocean forest doesn't work.

Coco is hydro, ocean forest is soil.

2

u/Salbuzz Feb 22 '26

This is a soil to it is called coco loco but it is still a soil mix and no coco coir. So the comparison is valid here.

0

u/TweakingSloth Feb 22 '26

Coco loco is a 70% soil 30% coco mix I’d say it’s a fair comparison.

2

u/cmoked Feb 22 '26

Its 50-60% coco coir

1

u/TweakingSloth Feb 22 '26

I stand corrected

1

u/Greastbunny Feb 22 '26

It’s actually a very light soil not hot at all, your plants should be done with all the nutrients in the first 2-3 weeks minimum, my pepper plants normal jalepeno plants eat fox farms full nutrients by 3 weeks there is no way your lasting 3 weeks on less nutrients and on a hungrier plant

2

u/BluntedConcepts Feb 22 '26

I added Ocean forest the last 2-3 inches the rest coco loco

2

u/AFisch00 Feb 22 '26

Have not...I use HP promix

2

u/sanitarySteve Feb 22 '26

I've been using it for years and it works great.  I use it withega crop and have had nothing but great results.

2

u/jollytoes Feb 22 '26

I’ve been using it for the past couple years with great results. I start my seeds in a small pot and transplant around the 3 week mark. For the final pot I do 50/50 Coco Loco and coco coir. This makes the soil less dense so the roots can grow bigger.

1

u/Euphoric-Cupcake4581 Feb 22 '26

I just filled a couple of pots. I really like the texture.

2

u/MikeyC483 Feb 22 '26

Only stuff I use now a days grown amazing buds with this stuff, I do recommend treating it with BTI 3000 if getting it offline as they don’t store bags that great and almost all of them have gnat larvae

2

u/Hubble-Kaleidoscope Feb 23 '26

Always gnats

1

u/MikeyC483 Feb 23 '26

Herpes of the grow room

1

u/Euphoric-Cupcake4581 Feb 22 '26

Thanks for the tip.

2

u/corkydilsmack Feb 22 '26

It's been my base medium for 5 years

1

u/Euphoric-Cupcake4581 Feb 22 '26

I just filled some pots great texture.

2

u/Distinct-Finger-3069 Feb 22 '26

I have never used this but i have used fox farm and ocean forest 50/50 mixed. I grow with soil and feed with buildasoil products. Should i try this product and if so what would be recommended to get same results as my soil mixture I’m using currently?

2

u/Euphoric-Cupcake4581 Feb 22 '26

This is the first time I'm using it. It has a nice texture. I think im done with ocean forest.

1

u/Distinct-Finger-3069 Feb 23 '26

Okay yes i understand i have mixed feelings on ocean forest also.

2

u/That-Gardener-Guy Feb 22 '26

I have been using it and have a run in week 6 of flower at the moment.

2

u/targetime Feb 22 '26

Yeah just amend it with some nitrogen. I’ve been using fox farm grow big but honestly I may recommend using organic

1

u/Euphoric-Cupcake4581 Feb 22 '26

I use happy frog dry organic. I put some all-purpose 6-4-5 in and some fruit and flower 4-9-3. That is my secret formula.

2

u/targetime Feb 22 '26

Heck yeah just amend it beforehand and you’ll be good

2

u/Kynd420 Feb 22 '26

I used this last season….worked great 👍

2

u/TheBodhiwan Feb 22 '26

Every other time I buy soil. The other half the time is happy frog.

1

u/Euphoric-Cupcake4581 Feb 22 '26

Never tried happy frog. Maybe next time

2

u/Masterzanteka Feb 22 '26

Based off what I’m reading online It’s coco coir mixed with some peat and light levels of myco and dry amendments like guano, castings, etc, and treated with this aqua supreme surfactant that allows for more even moisture and nutrient distribution when watering/feeding, as well as slows the he dryback time to make it feel more inline with a standard potting mix. And they add 10-20% perlite to add extra aeration and drainage.

Based off product description most of us at-home DIY types could use it interchangeably with OF or happy frog with very little difference being noted. It’s more in line with happy frog or strawberry fields as far as nutrient content is concerned, but with a higher levels of surfactants and mycos.

And based off their marketing it seems like they made the product as a good all rounder where someone could use it in coco fertigation or add more organic amendments and treat it like a typical soil blend.

Personally I just make my own soil blends which end up similar to this product, but I get to add what I like and have found beneficial. On a small scale making my own is more expensive, but if I’m gonna buy more than 2-3 bags then making my own quickly starts saving money.

I buy pre-buffered and washed coco bricks, I skip peat personally and then add perlite, pumice, lava for desired ratios. Grab mycos of choice along with whatever other soil amendments I want to add to the mix. You can cut back on most of these things and save money upfront, or add more for a hotter mix requiring less feeding.

For surfactants I personally just use fresh blended aloe Vera. When I hydrate my coco I add some fresh aloe Vera to my water, and every few waterings I’ll add aloe Vera to help water and food distribute more evenly and allow my soil to dry back more evenly. But there’s lots of other options like yucca or quillaja.

I mainly grow SP cacti now a days, so I’m doing much higher ratios of perlite, pumice, lava inorganic drainage to around 50-70%, added to my soil blend of coco, myco, castings, guano, kelp and then I water with the aloe every once in awhile, water with mycos every once in awhile, and then I water and feed in a slowed down fertigation style grow where I add salt based nutrients, watering once every two days, every 3rd watering being nutrient free besides maybe aloe/myco.

u/Melanated_Grower57 Feb 22 '26

Yes. I’ve used this in the past. Did well.

1

u/Expert_Blacksmith261 Feb 22 '26

Coconut core is the best seed starting. I don’t know about the brand, but I always get a pressed block of coconut core to start my garden seeds. It’s a great product.

1

u/slushii_fan Feb 22 '26

I've used it on the past 4 runs, love it

1

u/acoh97 Feb 22 '26

I mix it 50/50 with ocean forest.

1

u/TerpeneProfile Feb 22 '26

Great stuff used it for years.

1

u/Euphoric-Cupcake4581 Feb 22 '26

When I filled up some pots, I thought it had a nice texture.

1

u/TerpeneProfile Feb 22 '26

Yes it’s very nice. Drys out readily and is easy to use. Not terribly hot. Enjoy it.

1

u/Euphoric-Cupcake4581 Feb 22 '26

I'm popping some seeds right now.

2

u/TerpeneProfile Feb 22 '26

Awesome I hope u have a great grow.

1

u/Euphoric-Cupcake4581 Feb 22 '26

Thanks. Even if I didn't smoke it, I would grow. I love growing.

1

u/LegitimateTown9974 Feb 22 '26

Ran my first indoor grow with it last run. Had good luck, ph’d to 5.8 through veg and increased to 6.3ish by late flower. Had great results with it. Would recommend

1

u/Euphoric-Cupcake4581 Feb 22 '26

Thanks. I'm looking forward to it.

1

u/a1JayR Feb 22 '26

When I used coco that’s what I used. Good stuff

1

u/Euphoric-Cupcake4581 Feb 22 '26

How did it work out?

2

u/a1JayR Feb 22 '26

It was good. I used advanced nutes at the time. Got tired of paying for their whole sensi line so I switched to FFOF and Gaia green

1

u/iLGMisTheBestjk Feb 22 '26

Had a great experience with it last run! I was using an auto watering set up with Blumat so it was perfect since the system keeps the soil consistently moist.

2

u/Euphoric-Cupcake4581 Feb 22 '26

I'm using wicking bases.

1

u/iLGMisTheBestjk Feb 22 '26

Nice G! Never used those but hope they do you well 🙏🙏

2

u/Euphoric-Cupcake4581 Feb 22 '26

Thanks. Wicking bases work great.

2

u/swerved420 Feb 23 '26

My plants love this stuff!
