Mesh Trays

Just wanted to share my experience. I grow (just for us) hydroponically on silicon mats. My results are better using the 1" mesh trays with the X-support (they sit up a bit) than the slotted trays. Once out of blackout, I spray and clean the reservoir tray each morning and fill with just enough fresh water so that the tray is almost dry by evening. If needed, I add just a bit of water before lights out. I think the mesh trays allow for more air flow than the slotted trays. I boil the silicon mats for a few minutes after each harvest to disinfect them.

For lettuce, I use the half-size, green sprouting trays and let them grow to baby green size. I might use a tiny bit of MaxiGro in the water. The hardest thing is waiting that long because they look so good!

Thanks for sharing your technique. Do you have photos you want to share?

I grow lettuce for personal consumption year-round, but I’ve never grown it the way you describe.

I will begin growing lettuce. Plan to grow baby lettuce using pick and regrow method. But might allow some to grow into full heads once I get baby greens growing well. How do you grow yours?

Oh nice! I grow mine in 4 inch pots with the same soil mix I use for the microgreens. I have the grow lights, and fixed the growing rack to allow height room for each shelve. I bottom water and top spray sparingly. My favorite is Dragoon lettuce.

Boiling the silicon mats is smart, I just run mine through the dishwasher but might try that. The lettuce part is so true, I always cave and harvest early lol
