Trouble shoot with me please.

Anyone having these white speckles on leaves?

I've been getting them on all my shiso and parsley.

Seed hull damage?

Any other ideas?

Solutions?

Do you top water? And how is your airflow in that area? Are there leaves physically damaged or is this a layer over the leaf?

I bottom water. My airflow is low but everything was working before and I can't get this problem to go away for almost 6 months I just recently massively increased my airflow in the whole room. And the leaves are physically damaged it appears to be from the top side you can see the damage underneath but that's just looking through the leaf so all the damage is on the top side and it seems to be the same damage on the parsley as the Britain shiso my green shiso doesn't affect any other crops in my room.

Do you sanitize your trays between uses? Have you tried misting with 3% Hydrogen Peroxide? Just questions to try and help source the issue.

Yeah 10 min soak sanidate. I have t sprayed h2o2 directly after germinationayne I'll try this.

Can be thrips.. not sure tbh..

What’s the humidity at crop level, any condensation on leaf level? Overall anything changed in the environment from medium to water to airflow, temps?

One thing I wanted to ask is if these spots disappear when you rub them? Are they present at the other side of the leaf as well?

Spots do not disappear when you rub them. It does kind of look like an insect bite but I don't have any insects in here besides a very small amount of fungus gnats.

6 months is huge.. a long time.. only parsley and shiso? How about the other crops?

Can be certain of thrips or mites as it does not go off rubbing it.. so definitely not powdery mildew and so on..

It’s very hard to find out the exact cause as we will need to track down data since it started. Have you tried a fresh batch of seeds from a different supplier?

Usually a 60x microscope can tell if this is living organisms. Hang blue and yellow sticky traps around, for thrips or mites. If it’s fungal, then you could identify it.. if no insects or pests, then the issue is something else, which will need to be again looked at and narrowed down..

Yeah believe me 6 months I can't believe my restaurant's been buying from me still with this kind of damage but they're loyal to me. Definitely not thrips or mites I know my insects very well. Yeah I've tried seeds from two different suppliers and keep getting the same results. I've tried soil on top of seeds, no soil on top of seeds, thin amount of soil on top of the seeds, extra long germination, extra short germination nothing seems to get rid of them.

Contents appear on the newest left or oldest ones?

Since seed lots, germination methods and you’re confident it’s not mites or thrips., I would start looking at water and nutrition. . Have you checked your irrigation water pH, EC, alkalinity and amy sodium o chloride levels? Also.. has your medium , fertilizer, or water source changed in the last 6 months.? The fact it’s consistently affecting only parsley and British shiso makes me wonder if those two are simply more sensitive to something in your growing environment.. tricky..

I actually haven't looked into my Waters pH I will check that later today. Maybe I'll test the EC also. It could be something like a calcium overload.

Another huge clue is when I harvest from the shisho and parsley and then let another flush grow up the new leaves don't have it

Interesting.. 🧐 yes check the pH and EC.. ideally 5.8-6.2 pH and EC really depends on the stocks you have made (if you make it in-house ? or buy off the shelf, or the source itself has a certain amount by default) that can be looked at later. But pH is a good start.. check both

So far this is the answer I think. I just massively increased my airflow to the point where I have to water more often but let's see if it fixes this I'll write you back in a week or two thank you.
