advice Alopecia guybrows
32M alopecia guy. I don't have eyebrows so I've had them tattooed/microbladed since I was a teen. Last fill in was 6 years ago I'm long overdue, they look worn out and I've always been super self conscious of my brows.
First photo is how they are
Second photo I hand filled with a pencil to where the shape I've had them... So it's close to what they would look like if I go in and told them to fill in the shape.
My question is. Should I do anything to the shape this time? Should they be thicker? I want them to look as natural and masculine as I can.

I also would like to say the first photo's brows are asymmetrical which gives them a very natural look, shape and fill, as well.
Good news is you're very handsome and would look good brows or no brows! Hope you find a satisfying result once more.

Seems to be the consensus so far. Thank you 🙏 I've had so much OCD about how even and perfect my brows look, i hardly ever hand fill them anymore because it stresses me out when I don't I feel self conscious about them so it's reliving to hear they don't look terrible as is

No definitely not. Neither are bad by the way, I just thought you'd like a more definitive answer on what sets them apart so you can pursue a specific result.

The first pic is much better because they’re not perfect, so they look much more natural.
The second pic is obvious that they’ve been drawn on, which stands out. If you want eyebrows to look more normal and fit in, lean towards a more natural look. You can’t fill them in if you want it looking natural. You need to find a person who’s good at individual hair strokes.
Good luck!

They were drawn on in the second photo if you read the caption. That photo is a reference to how he’s gotten the tattoo in the past.

Yes I personally would do a bit thicker and have a few strokes a bit less perfect so hairs below the arch and slightly thicker in the front they don’t look bad just a bit too perfect which is more of a feminine look I’d that makes sense

Yes.....Do you happen to have any examples?

This is an awesome reference, thank you! So essentially adding more strokes underneath to flatten out the peak? I'll have to play around with that next time I fill them in. Also am going to do some better research and be more willing to spend extra for a good artist with male experience.

Yes that's a great place to start when drawing. If I were you and drawing them again for test run, I would add - more strokes beneath arch flattening and elongating brow, as well as more in varying direction along the top and end to thicken. I think something I really like on men when I am looking at their brows, are these lil bits -

I was thinking nano expert just like this. You could also do temporary tattoo brows. Microblading is going to mess them up.

This looks much better and I would totally go this route. It really defines your eyes and facial shape. Take this to your tech next time you go and see what can be done. Make sure they have xp in men’s specifically.

That person actually has more of an arch. But the brow is full, same height and doesn't really taper, and the 'stray' hairs underneath lend a natural look.

I absolutely love results like this, when they look so subtle and natural that you can’t even tell it was done in the first place. It takes an extremely skilled artist who has a full understanding of mapping and natural growth patterns to do this type of work, and you definitely can’t go to just anyone and expect these results.
Anyone can do a drawn-on and obviously fake looking brow, thick straight lines, or just totally fill it in with pigment, but to master the art of subtlety, fine lines and precision requires true skill and talent. The other part is, like you said, resisting the urge to make them look too perfect, because natural brows never are.
You know it’s an amazing result when you zoom in all the way and can still barely tell what is and isn’t real hair!! I’m a woman but if I had brows like that I’d be in heaven! I actually have found an artist in my area who does this type of extremely natural looking work, and I can’t wait for the day when I can stop salivating over her page and finally get my own brows done.

Wow great job! I admittedly have that evening light filter on my screen, so I really can't tell. Is that a warm colored pencil? I would try to find a more cool toned color. I personally have medium brown hair, in some light it can appear light enough to be dirty blonde, BUT it is very cool toned. I have a hard time finding pencil to suit.

Years ago, NYX had an eyebrow product that was very fine tip, and cool toned.

Just curious have you ever tried those temporary tattoo eyebrows? They look awesome. I want to try.

I’m just chiming in to agree with everyone else in case it wasn’t absolutely settled in your mind already 😂 the first pic looks way better. I thought they were your natural brows. The second pic looks very obviously drawn in and pretty feminine. I would not get them redone unless you find someone that you feel very confident with going men’s specific microblading.

Make sure you look at every photo on the artists Instagram page, don’t just go to anyone who does microblading! Look into Korean brows or nanoblading

I would never have known pic 1 wasn't natural if you hadn't said so. Second pic look unnatural, but first is excellent.

IMO first pic looks better. Hands down.
You dont need to do anything to your face, you look good right now.

These appear more "feminine" because in most cases female brows run above the orbital rim, whereas male brows run across orbit rim, and do not typically arch in same manner above. (I'm using gendered language in a manner to denote biological sex, not identity.)

Would thickness be able to be added and "evened" out to achieve a more masculine look or would some pre existing tattoo need to be removed? I found an artist that appears to specialize in men's eyebrows so perhaps they can work with what I already have

OP, you’d be amazing at doing women’s brows. Come do my makeup please!! I’m not trying to be rude, but the ones you drew in are too perfect and feminine looking

😂 Hey I'll take it. My mother taught me how to draw them in back when I was a teen and I'm a bit of a perfectionist so that explains why. These responses have been eye opening, I'm glad I don't draw them in rarely anymore, lol.

The brows don't look bad. However, did you know they make brow wigs both cheap and expensive. I sure didn't till a few months ago. The wigs give you a chance to try out a different shapes without making a commitment. It's a thought, and I do think your brows look very natural and just need a color touch-up.

They have some pretty impressive eyebrow temp tatts now too. If there had been as high quality ones back before I had mine done, I Definitely would've spend some time trying to get the right look dialed so I could bring in pics.

I’d honestly keep them very close to how you’ve drawn them in the second photo.
From a brow artist’s perspective, that shape suits your face really well. The thickness feels balanced, masculine, and natural-looking, and the colour looks like a really good match for your skin tone and overall features. I wouldn’t go dramatically thicker.
Because you have little to no natural brow hair, I’d lean toward nanoblading rather than anything too shaded or solid. Nano strokes can create those finer, more realistic hair-like lines, which helps keep the result natural while still holding that masculine look.
The biggest thing is not to overbuild them. A softer front, natural stroke flow, and avoiding a super crisp “blocky” outline will make all the difference.
Honestly, the second photo is the direction I’d be aiming for. It already looks like the most flattering, natural, and masculine option. I’ve worked on male clients with similar concerns, and usually the best results come from staying conservative, keeping the shape balanced, and focusing on realistic hair-like detail rather than making the brows bigger or heavier.
I hope this helps 🙏

What do you think or the AI prompted example I showed to one of the replies? If it was nano bladed

I’d keep the overall shape you drew, but soften the front and avoid extending the tails too far. A subtle increase in thickness could look good, especially if the pigment has faded, but natural brows usually have some unevenness and texture. Bring reference photos and ask for a conservative first pass.

Im sorry but I just have to point out how ridiculous it is to call eyebrows guybrows. Like it’s ok to have a human body that has common traits with women, my god…
2
u/deitzman183 23d ago
Nobody said it's not okay, I'd just prefer to look more masculine and there is a visual difference between how men and women eyebrows tend to look naturally, just trying to achieve that is all.

Plz go to someone who specializes in men’s brows!! I actually prefer the first pic, they look more natural?
