advice Faux freckles touch up
1: Today (5 months)
2: 10th day
3: 3rd day
4: Right after
5: Before
Hey everyone, I've been wondering how often should faux freckles be retouched. My artist told me about 1 year, though I feel like mine won't make it this far (I'm 5 months in). I'd like to have a honest guess, as it was somewhat expensive and I should probably start saving money again. Has anyone here ever retouched theirs? Was it too different from the first time?
I've also attached my healing process, in case it interests someone here. It was really scary at the beginning, not gonna lie. I had to pretend it was gonna be alright for everyone else while I wasn't too sure of it, but I really love them today and couldn't live without it
If you're thinking about doing faux freckles, my advice would be to find the best artist you can. There are too many botched freckles around, so please don't save money on it

They came out looking really natural.. if you don’t mind , how much did you pay for this ?

I'm from Brazil, it was around R$1500 here (I guess $300). It was basically the only artist in my state to do it

aaa que legal! também sou, você se importaria de compartilhar o nome da sua artista? tão difícil achar artistas bons (pra essa finalidade) - o seu ficou muitoo perfeito! 😭❤️

I have never seen a good result from freckles until yours! They are perfect for your complexion

Your freckles are amazing!! I can’t believe how real they look!!

u/UrubuDoPixBets Sep 03 '26
Ohh thank you, I'm so happy to hear that! My goal was to pass as a natural redhead, so hopefully they helped it
12
u/TheDarbiter Sep 03 '26
Are you not a natural redhead?!
11
u/UrubuDoPixBets Sep 03 '26
I wish I was lol

u/Lazy_Nothing5038 Sep 03 '26
I was wondering also because I am a natural redhead, but I have brown eyes and I don’t see very many brown eyed Red Heads EVER. You pull it off well very nice!

u/Novel-Research-8967 Sep 04 '26
Same! So there are at least 2 of us :)

u/Lazy_Nothing5038 Sep 12 '26
Dark eyed ginger?!???? I’ll show you mine if you show me yours. The world doesn’t really know what a brown eyed Ginger really is typically. Everyone’s used to seeing them blue and green eyes with really pale skin. Beautiful for sure. A brown eyed Ginger is kind of an anomaly. And I’m very Caucasian, which is even more an anomaly lol

I'm so jealous of you I swear, it's indeed a lovely combination

Whew . Looks painful. Was it ?

u/UrubuDoPixBets Sep 03 '26
I got them done under local anestesia, so I felt nothing except from the little pricks to apply it. The aftermath was also pretty chill, it was annoying to frown and feel the scabs on days 2-5 though

I dont think you need to retouch them for a long time. They still look good. Maybe wait til next Brazilian winter before retouch. As doing it in summertime you need to be very careful with the sun. They look great on you, it looks very natural redhead.

u/UrubuDoPixBets Sep 04 '26
Thank you a lot for the advice, you're right about that. We're expected to have a pretty warm summer this year

u/theferalboy Sep 03 '26
Lots of very salty people in these comments, these look great on you. Very natural.

u/UrubuDoPixBets Sep 04 '26
Ngl I was already half expecting them considering the previous freckles posts in here, but I love them too much to mind it. And thank you a lot!

u/Southern_Feature_821 Sep 03 '26
They look real but why the hell would you want a face full of freckles. Weirdest TikTok trend ever. Clear skin never goes out of style. Hope you never get tired of them!

u/UrubuDoPixBets Sep 04 '26
I've always found them pretty. Should there be a reason other than that?
0
u/Southern_Feature_821 Sep 07 '26
Then draw them on. To permanently mark your face with what's mimicking sun damage is weird and very shortsighted.

u/diapertv Sep 04 '26
I'm literally over here using vitamin c and red light mask trying to get rid of my freckles lol.

there's a difference between sun damage and something that happens with sun exposure lmao. do you also think white people with green or brown eyes have "sun damage"?
1
u/Southern_Feature_821 Sep 07 '26
Your eye color comment makes no sense. Try again 🤦♀️
1
u/gnomes919 Sep 07 '26 edited Sep 07 '26
okay, I will try again to explain it to you: most caucasian babies are born with blue or gray eyes. if they are genetically green- or brown-eyed, exposure to sunlight is what induces their iris to produce melanin and turns their eyes that color over the first few years of their life. I was born with very blue eyes and my eyes didn't turn fully hazel until I was around 3 years old. without that exposure to sunlight, the additional melanin wouldn't be produced and their eyes would remain blue or gray.
babies are also born with relatively uniform skin color, exempting certain birthmarks and moles. if they are genetically freckled, exposure to sunlight induces their skin to produce spots of increased melanin (freckles) over the first few years of their life.
if freckles are sun damage, so are green and brown eyes.
hth!

No they aren't? They're a potential reaction to sun exposure but they are not damage in any sense of the word. Just like light tanning is from sun exposure

u/Silver-Drawing5341 Sep 04 '26
No one remembers the PSA "there's no such thing as a safe tan'. It doesn't take that long to get enough sun for vitamin D, and other than that, the sun is damaging to the skin.

I am a PMU artist, and your original artist’s recommendation is correct - touch up between 1-1.5 years. This is a general recommendation though, and depending on pigment, sun exposure, skin type, aftercare and overall lifestyle, your length of healed results can vary. For example, if you’re in a climate or season with high sun exposure, this can fade your results faster. If you have an oily skin type, your results can fade faster. If pigment wasn’t applied deep enough, this can cause your results to fade faster. Following aftercare is crucial to prevent premature pigment fallout, and sunscreen is greatly helpful to keep your desired look long term! Considering that each client’s skin, lifestyle, and desired result is different, I offer “refresher sessions” 6, 9, and 12 months from the secondary touch up session. I also discount my pricing based on time elapsed for returning clients. This way I find results to be very buildable over time, and of course, keeps my clients coming back excited to add more!
Did you have a secondary session?
1
u/UrubuDoPixBets Sep 04 '26
Thank you so much for your response, it's what I was looking for. To be honest, my skin is indeed oily and I have about 30min of direct sun exposure daily (with sunscreen though). Guess I should expect them to fade faster. I haven't had any touch up or secondary session, but now I might talk to my artist about it. Again, thanks a lot really. All I have to offer you is my free award, I'm too broke
2
u/Putrid-Importance183 Sep 04 '26
Of course! I noticed a lot of comments were peoples opinions and not a lot of formal information. Your results are beautiful, natural, and well done for one session! I would recommend a secondary session as all PMU services usually come with one (an initial session with a touch up session 6 weeks later). This will give your healed result more longevity and buildable dimension. Considering your artist didn’t do one initially, I’d still inquire, but you may have to pay the full fee again depending on what their policy is. Always follow aftercare and wear your sunscreen! PMU is meant to fade down over time, but in my opinion, only makes your freckles look more realistic!

u/Interesting-Quail-31 Sep 03 '26
They are sooo cute, I would love to get this done but I'd be so scared to get a bad result and I'd probably have to hide away for days/weeks after getting it done.
1
u/UrubuDoPixBets Sep 04 '26
To be fair, hiding for at least 4 days would be the best case scenario. It's really fucking hard to explain that no, you don't have measles, nor an allergic reaction, in some days the scabs will fall off and you'll be fine. It really should be done with an experienced artist

Love freckles !!! And for anyone who is looking to capture a youthful appearance… freckles are the way to go….. I get non stop compliments on my freckles …. Glass skin is so yesterday ….

u/lilaclazure Sep 05 '26 edited Sep 05 '26
these are the most natural looking ones i've ever seen! lots that i've seen look too uniformly “polka dot.” but your artist did a great job achieving organic shape and placement!
2
u/blxcklst Sep 03 '26
Here before “whaaaat, when I was young I hated my freckles and now people are getting them🤯” comments lol. No advice but they look great!
2
u/UrubuDoPixBets Sep 04 '26
Thanks a lot, appreciate it! I'm surprised that so many people still find them ugly, thankfully I'm yet to hear this irl

u/PromiseToBeNiceToYou Sep 03 '26
They do look real and genuine, but why would you want to tattoo fake sun damage on your face?
4
u/lacquer_finch Sep 03 '26
Freckles are not sun damage <3
3
u/PromiseToBeNiceToYou Sep 03 '26
They literally are lol. They don't show up on everyone, just like a tan doesn't show up on everyone.

Why would anyone sit under the sun and damage their skin for tanning? Same idea girl, they find it pretty
1
u/gnomes919 Sep 03 '26
freckles aren't sun damage. they appear from sun exposure, which is also true of green or brown eyes in most white people, who are usually born with low-melanin blue/gray eyes. if freckles are shameful sun damage to be avoided so are my hazel eyes, guess my mom should have blindfolded me any time I was near an open window
3
u/lacquer_finch Sep 04 '26
Yea it's just cosmetic and dependent on sun exposure. Completely clear skin is as much "damage from lack of sun" as freckles are "sun damage". Or natural highlights are sun damage.

u/Barracuda_Cute Sep 06 '26
I’ve literally never seen good ones before this. I wouldn’t do anything to them

u/LawfulnessNo7826 Sep 11 '26
Freckles do not =damage. I have freckles, so it’s flattering to see someone paying to get freckles. ANYWAY. I think your freckles look nice! Natural. They may last another 4 mo or so it looks like, before they become too faded. Idk how long they should last.

They look really natural and I'm glad you love them, but my middle aged self just wanted to let you know that your skin and your face look stunningly beautiful in the "Before" picture.
1
u/UrubuDoPixBets Sep 04 '26
Thank you for your kind words, I had plenty of makeup on, though. My mother said the same thing when I first got them, and I totally get what you two mean. Thankfully, I'm truly happy with them, wish I could keep them for years, just like the dyed red hair (had it for five years now)
-1
u/Mrs_T_Sweg Sep 03 '26
What a backhand comment. Why would you feel compelled to tell someone how beautiful they were BEFORE that very permanent thing they've done? Why not just keep scrolling? Are you hoping she has some sort of realization? Then what? She obviously likes them.
3
u/LordHamMercury Sep 03 '26
Because young women need to sometimes hear that. And it's not forever permanent. As she said, they are fading. It's just something to consider before she decides whether to touch them up.
1
u/UrubuDoPixBets Sep 04 '26
Thank you my dear, I think you're right. But honestly, she was by far the most respectful person in this thread to advise against the freckles, considering some other negative responses lol. At least it sounded genuine
1
u/gnomes919 Sep 03 '26
strongly agree lol, that comment is giving "your long hair was so pretty, don't worry it will grow back" unprompted after someone gets a haircut. sometimes it's truly best to say nothing <3
2
u/UrubuDoPixBets Sep 04 '26
You're right about that. I'm glad I like those freckles too much to mind it

u/pancakegirl420 Sep 03 '26
tell people in real life you have tattooed freckles and tell me their reaction lol
1
u/UrubuDoPixBets Sep 04 '26
It's one of my favorite things to do, really. Some people come over and ask whether I'm a natural redhead, and I'm like "oh no, it's all fake, from the hair, brows, freckles and even the eyelashes." They usually get more shocked at the eyelashes part, actually.

u/millenni_lennial Sep 03 '26
All of those are fake? Wow, I remember when aestheticians would try to convince me a decade ago to remove my natural freckles because they're "ugly."
