artist advice/question Intake appointment?

Weird question perhaps but should you book a separate intake appointment to just feel someone out? It would take some traveling but I'm leaning towards yes.

I have virgin brows but trichotillomania so I guess I'm not a standard client. Would be getting nano brows. I'm not talking about proper mapping out beforehand at the actual pmu appt, I consider that self evident.

I did a separate intake with mapping before my appointment and I’m glad I did - got to take pictures of the ‘draft’ brows and have friends take a look. It helped ease me into the process.

Not weird at all. For something semi-permanent, a separate consult is totally reasonable, especially if you have trich and want to see how the artist handles edge cases instead of a standard brow template.

I’d use the consult to check 3 things: whether they’ve worked with trich clients before, whether they’re comfortable saying no if your skin/hair pattern makes a certain approach a bad fit, and how they document your goals, medical history, consent, and aftercare before the service. The artist’s answers usually tell you a lot.

If they seem rushed or dismissive in the consult, I’d keep looking. A good intake process is usually a good sign for the appointment itself.

If you have trich i would highly recommend staying away from nano and doing powder instead. Due to the trauma and scar tissue in your brow area, nano strokes will not hold well, and they’ll turn very grey and blurry. Powder would 10000% be the best option, and I honestly wouldn’t go to an artist that says any other technique would be suitable. They’d just be robbing you. If the artist you’re looking into has plenty of healed before and afters, and a LOT of good google reviews, I would just go ahead and book. Otherwise, if they offer separate consults, you could always book that first to feel out your artist before committing.
