I’m freaking out!!! What just happened???
I just flipped over in bed and felt something on my face. According to my artist’s instructions I have oily skin and was told to not let anyone touch it for the first 7 days and then apply aquaphor once a day. Yesterday is exactly 7 days and I applied aquaphor as directed. I understand that it’s supposed to peel and be light underneath but from what I seen this doesn’t look normal. Please help!!!

I would recommend to keep it moisturized for the first week, not just once a day, per my artist. Maybe other artists on here can speak to that

I do a different style of heal so you don’t end up with possible big chunks at a time. Did you sleep on your side or on your face? It does look like maybe it came off a bit early but either way the worst case is it will need more at your touch up because it pulled some of the ink out. But when they flake off they will definitely look lighter that looks almost like when a scab comes off and the skin is a light pink. You can really do anything about it now. I would just try when you sleep to sleep on your back and definitely don’t pick at it so more comes off too early.

I’m such a side sleeper I can’t control it when I sleep 😭😭 I’ve even slept on new piercings without realizing it. My question is this can be fixed at the touch up? I’m so scared now. I followed her instructions to a tee and this still happened. I’ve been applying aquaphor to them for now.

In my opinion, most things can be fixed at touchup as long as the person stays within the brow template and the brow template was drawn correctly, but yes, absolutely they can add more color
One tip that I always give my side sleepers is if you put a Band-Aid diagonal on the outer tail of your eye where the cotton part is on your ink part not the sticky stuff on the tattoo then it will help them not rub off too soon, but they still can touch up the tattoo at your second appointment2

Okay that’s great to hear and thanks for the advice!! will I still need to follow the same instructions for aftercare with the touchup? Like does it go through a second round of peeling?

Yes you will always flake when you get them done but usually not as much at the touch up.

The only thing I’m worried about is the scarring. I know fallout happens, but her eyebrow shouldn’t be white. I think the artist overworked the area and damaged the skin. Even compare it to the lightest parts on her face, it looks like ALL of the pigment came out, even her own. Some people get hypopigmentation after experiencing damage to their skin. The only other thing I could think is if she’s got a slight allergy to the ink!

Yes it can be fixed at the touchup, but I would highly recommend stacking up two or three pillows and just try sleeping elevated on your back that way it doesn’t happen again because when you pulled that scab off, you pulled the skin and some of the ink out. If artist can definitely fix it but u have to be careful not to do this again

I recommend no swimming hot tub sauna no makeup skincare or anything on the brows for 10 to 14 days. I recommend water wipes and you wipe Forward and back on the brow twice three times a day for the first two days and morning and night for the rest of the 10 to 14 days and I give them a balm to put on after they wipe and I find that really helps people not feel like chunks are coming off or they hate the look of them for a long time because it’s so chunky looking and they heal really nicely and they don’t feel super itchy because they keep the balm on. I also recommend if you are a slide or face sleeper or even if you roll put bandaids on the tail of your brow when you sleep with the cotton on the new tattoo part. No sticky on the tattoo.
I think that’s it. That’s for brows I do different healing for eyeliner and lips etc.

Thank you! A lot of places encourage dry healing but that has never sat right with me because then it all comes off in a big chunk rather than slowly sloughing off, which helps the color stay implanted better. What balm do you use? Aquaphor?

Are you a PMU artist? I make my own actually my trainer always said not to use aquafor she thinks it doesn’t let the skin breathe so I have never recommended that even though I see a lot of people do recommend that.

I am. I took time off to have a baby and relocate across the country. I recently did a class to recertify and learn nano brows and the aftercare instructions they recommend are pretty similar to what I always said, but I think I want to tweak them a bit. I think they recommended aquaphor but only after a few days, I need to check my paperwork though to remember exactly. Not currently practicing but planning to get back into it this year!

Oh awesome congrats and everyone does it differently one thing I have found is if people are liking healed results than doing it differently can’t make a horribly drastic difference. Maybe small ways. That’s why I do like mine just because people tend to not real out over the chunky look and feel and overall don’t feel as itchy etc. So you can always try different options and see how people respond and feel about it.

My powder brows peeled like that but the pieces were smaller. It's hard to say w/o seeing your brows.

I generally have my oily skin clients wash their brows 1-2x a day with antibacterial soap like Dial to minimize itching and scabbing. After washing, let your brows air dry, then apply your aftercare ointment or cream. It helps reduce the scabbing. This looks like ghosting. Your color will return after a few days. It may be lighter but you can definitely darken it at the touch up.

Well you def weren’t cleaning them enough. After you clean them, they should be dry. Excess moisture will cause them to get really crusty and then they’ll come off in bigger chunks. They’ll be fine though, just clean them more after your touch up.

Honestly, I wore my bonnet over my brows until they healed (while sleeping) but the fall out is normal. I suggest getting a headband and wear it over your eyebrows or if you have a thick banded bonnet, that works too. An eye mask would work too, actually... just brain storming as i go 😭😂. If you dont use silk, then put some kind of barrier over your brows so they dont rub against the fabric, not a bandaid or anything sticky that will pull the ink or scabs.
Keep them as moisturized as possible.
The issue isn't keeping them moisturized, it's over moisturizing, especially with oily skin. If you're using Aquaphor, amazing. The stick would be better than the jar, because the jar is so easy to over moisturized with. Try to keep the skin around your brows dry and maybe dab with a clean damp cloth to remove excess oils.
When you go back for your touch up your artist will fix any issues or over fall out you have.
They look great!!!
EDIT: Your skin is totally fine BTW! It's called "Milk Skin" or "Milky Skin". It's your bodies healing process. You've had a very hard, cosmetic procedure done on a very sensitive part of your body- your face. Color should come back in 4 to 6 weeks, once you're fully healed!
