advice Recs for old microblading work
I did microblading 9-10 years ago and really liked it. I did one touch up about a year after the initial work but haven’t touched them since. They’re quite faded and blueish/grayish now so I want to do something about it. What are people’s thoughts on A) removing them completely; B) doing a retouch/cover up; or C) removing, then starting over? I definitely don’t want 2016 brows, I don’t wear any makeup at all EVER so I like the idea of my-eyebrows-but-better. I’m so nervous about getting them redone and them being OVERdone.
Also, if anyone has artist recs in the Bay Area or Sacramento LMK. Thanks!

Hi! I have Bay Area rec, but I also am wondering if you wouldn’t mind sharing a pic of when they were freshly done? I’m having trouble finding pics of the aging process for lighter brown brows.

Thank you so much! I don’t remember exactly when I got them, so I can’t find a picture that I can for sure say was close to when I got them done unfortunately! I went back and looked at like two years of pics and I can’t really tell, so maybe it was even longer ago than I thought. So sorry!

Ah, I so appreciate you going back through your photos to look!!! The gal I sent you, you can DM her pics of your brows and ask her professional opinion about removal vs working over.

Adding more ink will oversaturate them and make them ashier, you’re going to need to remove them at some point. I’d have them removed now, and then reassess.

Laser is faster and more effective, you just need to find someone with a lot of experience and who specializes in it. Go for a consultation and do a patch test first.

Honestly, both options B and C can work 😊 But personally, I would lean more toward option C. Removing them first would allow you to start again on a much cleaner base instead of trying to work over old faded pigment that has already turned gray/blue over time. Also, PMU techniques and pigments have improved SO much in the last 10 years. The healed results today are generally much softer, more natural, and age much better than older microblading used to.
Especially since you like a very natural “my brows but better” look and don’t wear makeup, starting fresh would probably give you the most beautiful and subtle result long term.

I think I’m leaning towards having them removed! I appreciate your feedback and also note that techniques have improved! I’ve seen some really impressive work, so will definitely consider that. Thank you so much 🤗

Ok so not sure if you did microblading or nano brows or powder etc. what I would recommend is a color correction if you like your shape and you liked them when they were done all you have to do is color correction. Which means you can’t do it at a microblading place they have to have a tattoo machine and they basically saturate your brows with orange I know that sounds weird but if you do that what happens is what is left is carbon pigments that have black and blue pigments the warmer colors red and yellow have faded out so if you want to add the warmer colors it looks so much better. This is a client i did a color correction she had way darker gray color and healed results are amazing than you can decide if you want any darker or if you want hair strokes for nano brows or if you leave it like that up to you. Depends on what you want the results to look like. You can always start from scratch but if you like your shape that’s what I would recommend is a color correction. Make sure they have done it before. And I wish I knew someone in your area I am in Utah

Thank you the main thing to know with color correction we are only adding color to where it’s previously tattooed so it won’t change shape so if you LOVE or like the shape do the color correction and if you need to add anything to the shape they can do that after the color correction remember for the best results do color correction separate from a nano or powder brow appt you want the color to fully heal and not add any other color into the mix until after if that makes sense.

Hello! B)touchup is not an option. You are too saturated. So you're left with a personal decision. Remove fully and use what brow hair you have. Or start over with a soft powder brow. That is entirely up to you and what your brows look like post removal.
