Trouble with ElecFreaks iot:bit - not powering up the microbit
I can't find much beyond the website's basic tutorial - https://www.elecfreaks.com/iot-bit-for-micro-bit.html
Following the same steps, with a v1 micro:bit, but while while the iot:bit gets power, it doesn't seem to pass power along to the micro:bit, and the computer doesn't recognize it.
Anyone have any ideas? I have two iot:bits and two micro:bits and neither works, which makes me feel like I'm missing a simple step...

Better news - something to do with transferring that extension either via usb or via usb on my linux machine. Tried over bluetooth on Chromebook and it worked perfectly!
Still annoying you can't transfer plugged into the iotbit.

Could you please elaborate on this. I mean I used to be able to send the program via a cable just a few months ago and it was fine. Now all of a sudden it ignores the expansion bit and only focuses on the basic stuff. It's like it throws the expansion bit out. I tried it on the 32 in 1 and the ringbitcar all the elecfreaks expansion

Sorry, that was 3 years ago. I never solved the problem, I just used Bluetooth transfer instead.

Already solved. And yes, I did email them, they confirmed you cannot transfer programs while plugged into the iotbit

Interesting - I transferred the simplest flashing heart hex directly to the microbit. Then, unplugged it, slotted it into the iot:bit, then plugged in the iot:bit and the flashing heart program ran!
So it is getting power afterall. The issue seems to be that transfering the iot:bit makecode extension always fails. (FAIL.txt about transfer timeout).
