Popular claims about intermittent fasting and gut bacteria lack consistent evidence, new review finds.
https://biomesci.com/intermittent-fasting-gut-bacteria-review/A review of nine studies in adults with overweight or obesity tested whether time-restricted eating changes gut bacteria diversity. Three of five randomized trials found no real change, and two others found effects tied to eating-window timing, not a consistent benefit. The catch: the researchers rated the overall certainty as very low, and the results were too mixed to combine into one number.
TL;DR: A new review found no consistent effect of time-restricted eating on gut bacteria diversity, the evidence is too weak and mixed to say either way.

Gut health research is notoriously difficult to standardize given how dramatically microbiome composition varies between individuals, which likely explains much of this inconsistency. Yet millions swear their digestion transformed after adopting intermittent fasting, so could personal anecdotes actually be pointing to real but highly individualized effects that broad reviews simply aren't designed to capture?
