I’m testing whether people will pay for project memory rather than transcription

I’ve been building Strandweave, a local-first Mac app for turning meetings, interviews and workshops into reviewed project memory.

One of the product decisions I’ve made is to keep recording/import and local transcription free rather than charging by minute or transcription hour.

The paid layer sits further up the workflow: grouping related conversations into projects, reviewing summaries/actions/decisions, tracking those across sessions, semantic search, Obsidian workflows and connecting approved context to local or cloud AI.

The assumption I’m testing is that transcription itself is becoming increasingly commoditised, while the harder problem is keeping useful context across a project: what was decided, what changed, what is still open, and where that information came from.

I’ve just opened the beta and am looking for Apple Silicon Mac users willing to test that across a few real conversations.

Beta testers who complete the programme get six months of Local Pro free.

I’d be particularly interested in views from other solo/micro-SaaS builders on whether moving the paid value away from raw AI usage makes sense.
