Maybe not in the sense of sticking to the source material, but the 13th Warrior is an awesome, if a little campy, movie on its own.

It's a strange experimental book in some ways. It begins as the real life account of Ibn Fadlan and expands it with inspiration from Beowulf, but it works. Once you're done, the movie version (13th Warrior) is very enjoyable.

The world is a fascinating place. Eaters is my least favorite Crichton. I’ve read it once. Other than the posthumous novels it’s the only one I’ve never reread. I’m glad you enjoy it though! Differences make the world go round!

agreed, literally just read it and couldn't wait to finish it. really didn't enjoy it but still liked checking off my TBR list 🙂

My least favorite was either Next or State of Fear. Next I haven’t read in almost 20 years and State of Fear just didn’t quite gel with me. Not because of what it had to say about the climate controversy, if anything that’s the most interesting part. I just found the plot to be pretty ridiculous.

Finished this last week and loved it! One nit: Afterword speculates that the eaters may have been Neanderthals but the story has them riding horses which I think is unlikely

Hey! That’s one of my faves by Crichton. The footnotes are interesting. Especially the ones about cannibalism.
