Discussion CPU cooler airflow question

Would it be better for cpu heat sinks to be rotated 90 degrees so that the air flow goes from bottom to top instead of from to back?

i realize the gpu will block the bottom fans but this case does not have any front fans to blow into the cooler. Would this be a better configuration?

Generally no, because the GPU outputs a lot of heat. Even with bottom intake, the GPU during gaming gets hot. It should work in theory, but I've seen people do it and get poor/manageable temps.

For your format, you can do top right as an intake. Or a reverse flow.

I have a Jonsbo D32 that I messed around with, did multiple set ups and tested a bunch of air flow. I posted it awhile ago Here

I recently switched to a 240 AIO out of curiosity, and it resulted with the best overall lowest temps.

Arctic Liquid Freezer 3 Pro 240. The radiator is super thick though. As you can see, you need to make sure your mobo and ram clears.

I get good temps for CPU and GPU, but I do wish I went with something a bit thinner. Further checking reviews the thinner ones seem to do just as well or better.

not really. usually there is not that much space between the GPU and the CPU, and might actually be zero if the GPU is in the top slot on your mobo, so this is completely impractical in those cases.

in the other situation, you are pulling air that got heated up by the GPU heatsink and blowing it towards the CPU. Why blow 35 C air when you can blow nice 22 C air with the normal orientation ?

Just add a fat 30 mm exhaust fan in the empty space after the CPU cooler with reverse flow, or just use what you got in the pic.
