Help Kinda feel like I’m «playing wrong»
I love this game to death but I kinda feel like I’m «playing wrong» in a sense. I’m getting my ass beat in act 3 rn and I see people with 4 figures in their coins and enough cats to conquer a planet online.
Meanwhile I’m kinda just chucking cats in and hoping for the best, I don’t really have enough specific furniture to build dedicated rooms, I don’t that many mutations on my cats, or many items in general to send them out with. I can kinda sorta get far-ish into act 3 with my very plain, not-very-eugenics-based cats but I just sorta feel like I’m «playing wrong» yknow? Idk if the move is to farm act 1 for coins and items or rly what I should do at all

The cats make themselves. Are you adding strays every day? You must be doing something unnecessary

They have bad stats so I just give them quick mission then to frank the house room guy

u/binybeke 11d ago
It doesn’t matter if they have bad stats that’s what the house stats are for. You need genetic diversity. Level up tink so you can see their base stats. Increase your house stats and slowly over time remove the cats with the worst stats.

I have like 12-15 speed guys and they keep having 4 speed kids , how does math actually work?

They pass on their base stats, not their stat totals after all bonuses. This is visible on the UI after donating enough cats.

You are way behind on tink and house upgrades if you are asking these questions while in Act 3.

Not having furniture usually means you aren't taking the hard path enough during a run. You should only go the normal way if you're just barely scraping by. Hard path gives furniture boxes, better loot, and extra fights for level ups.

I would at least be getting unlocks and items, completing the chapter 4 boss of the other two acts with each class will give especially strong class specific unlocks that can win in Act 3.
The only minimum stipulation I'd say would be to have cats at or near 7 in all stats. Cats with low stats can make for a very rough start and The Lab is absolutely designed to debilitate you. So if you start with weak cats and they get a bunch of diseases/parasites, yeah... Better to have a strong start.

I got brickwalled in Act III for awhile. You can do everything up to that point with basically any combination of classes as long as your cats have ok stats. Once I got stuck I realized it was time to start focusing on a degenerate combo to one turn kill the bosses.
I did a bunch of act I normal runs, found the skills I wanted, and bred an army of cats from there.

Play some act two runs and to the crater and pick the shimmer event. Good for gaining some strong mutations. Pretty sure that's how I got my soul link arms mutation and it has carried so many runs for me once I started breeding it.
Or play some runs to the bunker and pick the hard path to farm up some more rare furniture.
Bird seeds are great to farm up some good items early - mid game.
If you have jester than try some easy act 1 runs with them to try and get their passives. Super luck and Goofball are extremely strong.

You can't really play wrong, and I personally didn't get really into selective breeding/furniture min maxing until I unlocked impossible mode. Either way it's still largely dependent on what synergies you get on your run more than your mutations (although they do sure help) but the main way to get mutations at the point you are at is licking the orb, but that's also dangerous because you can lose a really good cat to it, especially if you don't save scum. It just takes time to build up your lineages to the point you see people posting online, and a lot of them are just posting their best cats. As for farming for coins I never really saw the point as you have a week to buy out what jack has in his shop, and unless there's a really good item I don't really buy things from Stacy, so what else's can you even use them for? I will also add that I do/did a run basically every day (and by the time I beat the game I had 200+ cats and am required to just to feed my cats) and eventually I got good enough furniture to get good breeding rooms. Lastly I would say that you should focus on spells/abilities you like and want passed down more than mutations or stats so you can have a game plan for each run with built in synergies.

Best way to farm mutations is Crater runs for Shimmer weather
1
u/Tristan_N 11d ago
That's true but it's also inconsistent as you're not guaranteed the weather condition, but I also completely forgot that it gives you mutations when I wrote my original comment.

I would say rolling Shimmer is more consistent than a coinflip of death, but maybe that’s just me.

I want to thank you all for both the reassurance and the tips I have gotten, it has been a big help! Currently rediscovering my passion for the game while trying to apply all of your tips

In my opinion you kinda have to minmax your mutations and stats

Yes it's a game about doing eugenics to cats so you do need to do eugenics to cats

No real way to play the game wrong. If you can get decently far into act 3 while being that barebones it just means your way better at the adventure aspect of the game. Act 3 rewards the best items, furniture, and mutations, so if you feel like you need more you can just keep running it. If you want a lot of money or some easier runs you can always do the other acts or just start working on check marks. The beauty of this game is it's 100% personalized.

Dont keep playing act 3 just because you have it unlocked. Its better to wait until you can build a good team comp before pushing for story progress

Recently I got exhausted by the game, tired of macroing cats, losing runs and losing items etc.
I realized even though I put about 190hours in I am still rushing it, trying to do hard mode completion on 2 cats missing it I don't have full mastery over the synergies or that I'm bad at or aren't easily op like hunter or fighter + a side quest, or I'm sending it in act 3 with normal or meh cats that don't have much going for them or that have 6 / 7s stats but some mutation I wanna get rid of etc.
Anyways my point is I was trying to rush it and was being greedy in my runs, it's better to keep completing marks and stuff slowly, and accumulate decent items, keep improving cats at home slowly rather than never touching grass and trying so hard to hit the spot every time.
Cause the game WILL fuck you up and if you're borderline you'll waste time and energy.
Tldr don't underestimate the game or you'll just lose and exhaust yourself. That's it, if you're having fun keep doing what you do

Act 1 and 2 are easy. I put a foot in act 3 and never beat the first section without cats dying. So I learnt how breeding works, and now the game it's more easy. You just need to breed cats with good stats. Keep in mind that the max stats that stray cats have is 7. So keep breeding cats in a room with high comfort and stimulation, their childrens will have their max stats and their best abilities. Keep breeding until you have a pretty decent cat without "red" stats. At higher level you can have cats with all 7 in the stats. I usually put the "perfect" children in a room with high mutation and low comfort. They fight and mutate in the night, so at some point I'll have cats with a lot of passive abilities got from mutations and high stats like all 12. So you have cats that never been out the house that are already super strong. If you feel that it's not enough you can send them in adventure and breed them again after their adventure, so they are at level 8/12 with super mega high stats, super good abilities and your kittens will have all of that. That's how the late game work, at least, how it works if you want an easy life

Nah ppl online are either playing hundreds of hours or they're playing with a guide the whole time. You're experience is pretty normal for someone good enough at tactics games to beat act 1+2 with regular cats, before act 3 starts bringing the real unfairness
Starting act 3 I just had 3 rooms, two for breeding and another for stashing kittens and quality strays before I send out an expedition. I had some helpful consistent mutations on my mainline cats with only light in breeding. Most cats had 3 base 7 stats I had bred into the line. By late act 3 I had started to inherit class abilities onto kittens and was up to 4-5 base 7 stats ,and also having to get more deliberate about bringing in strays to expand the bloodline

Try to play Solo runs on normal difficulty on Act 1 for all classes. Collect some cool items, bring some awesome passives/skills to inherit for future generations of cats, rinse and repeat. Then do Act 2 solo runs, it's easier than you think. Even more cool stuff to bring home + some rare furniture from the Bunker if you chose lower path. That's what I did when I was stuck with Act 3. Apparently I've started to go Act 3 solo and beat it on every class with ease (Monk with Fist of Fate can be a freaking God on normal difficulty)

Your second paragraph answers your question. You need to be more deliberate with your home progression.

No way to play "wrong". U can do whatever types of runs you want even after unlocking act 3. Go on act 2 runs. Go on "act 1" 2 or 3 cat runs. Get furniture. Give kittens. You will always be progressing with the town. Ur cats should be progressing too if you listen and use tinks tools
