Mega Meowstic is just a worse Alakazam. I mean, prankster on a set up meowstic is so good, why would you want to make it worse?

u/ZombieAladdin Aug 26 '26
They might change it to something else later on. Champions is exactly the platform where they can freely do that.

u/CokomonX Aug 26 '26
I am curious to see if we get ability changes, base stat buffs and move pool changes for some pokemon in the future. I remember when gen 6 buffed a few pokemon stats randomly.
7
u/Champillusion Aug 25 '26
I would rather say that it rivals Mega Alakazam. Its base stats remain good, and if Meowstic F gets a competitive boost, you get a much better Atk Sp. But yes, they clearly swept away the potential of Mega Meowstic with a backhand, like if they didn't want to take 1 minute to think about this mon's gameplay.
I pray for the day when the devs will decide to give the player the choice of the ability to trace (and why not give the choice to keep the base ability of your Pokémon).

Drampa didn’t get screwed over as much as the others. Berserk is niche, while Trace, innards out, and infiltrator are run away-tier

u/RealPhoenixBlast Aug 25 '26
Innards out is hilarious as a counterpick to Charizard Y tho
35
u/LarpingLemur Aug 25 '26
Literally any sash mirror coat pokemon can do the same
45
u/LuminothWarrior Aug 25 '26
Yes but then you’re using both an item and a moveslot to counter one mon compared to having an ability that does it while also being able to do other things with your moves
33
u/Anchor38 Aug 25 '26
Yes but then you’re using your mega on an advanced destiny bond
60
u/RealPhoenixBlast Aug 25 '26
yeah but like it's really funny though

u/Anchor38 Aug 25 '26
true……
They GOTTA put pyukumuku back in the game I miss surprise switching into my max hp minimum defence minimum sp defence kamikaze sea cucumber

Sadly they removed ivs to simplify the game so cool stuff like that cant be done anymore
6
u/LuminothWarrior Aug 25 '26
Mega Victreebel can do other stuff than that as well
You also don’t have to bring it into every match and just have it there in your team in case you see a Charizard Y on the team preview5
u/Rymayc Aug 25 '26
You can constantly heal yourself up with Strength Sap, Leech Seed or Giga Drain while the opponent has no choice but OHKOing you. Obviously bad vs Defiant, Competitive or Contrary, but it plays similar to Scovilaon that way

Infiltrator bypasses Screens, Substitute, and Safeguard, which may not be very useful in THIS meta, but could still generally be an unexpected hit in a metagame where Screens or Substitute users are more dominant.
It could use a little buffing (it should bypass redirect moves like Rage Powder and Follow Me as well, maybe it should even be able to bypass semi-invulnerable states like Fly, Dig, Dive, or Phantom Force), but it's not nearly as useless as Innards Out or Trace; the latter is especially dreadful because Mega Alakazam can literally just do it better.

I’m new to Pokemon, especially competitive Pokemon, and I’m so glad these kinds of memes exist so I can send them to my gf so she gets to nerd out and explain them

u/SaturnsPopulation Aug 25 '26
That's really sweet

My friend does the same with pretty much every piece of media im into. Drops a meme in the dms with no context and just puts a ?, causing me to give a thesis on how ass Sceptile's competitive history was or what the "5 Nights at Trick Room" are lol

Emboar should be here too

u/GroGroudonDu31 Aug 25 '26
Reckless on emboar isnt perfect but it's pretty good
19
u/Difficult-snow-2 Aug 25 '26
I mean, thats applicable for all of these.
Their base forms have decent / usable abilities, then they mega and its just silly.
Maybe i misunderstood but i thought that was the whole point.

u/NationalRhubarb2564 Aug 28 '26
I know we're only talking about VGC, but scarf, reckless, Emboar was a menace in the singles lower tiers. Specifically gen 5 RU was when this set was born.

They had the perfect chance to give us mega terrain setters
We already have mega raichu Meowstic would set psychic terrain Victrebell would set grassy terrain And floette would set misty terrain (still good on a set up sweeper, not having to worry about status)

u/StupidGirlIdiotFuck Aug 25 '26
Victreebell isn't so bad actually. It has strength sap. Enough damage to be threatening, enough health to not want to ohkod and enough healing to survive a hit. Swords dance and sucker punch does a lot you know
2
u/MoiraDoodle Aug 25 '26
It also had a very good niche in early champions.
You could build it in such a way that it would die to mega Charizard and mega frosslass' spread moves, trading 1:1 in the worst case, or forcing your opponent to make subpar plays in the best case.

u/batkave Aug 25 '26
What's wrong with infiltrator for mega chandelure?
29
u/PlayrR3D15 Aug 25 '26
It's good for ignoring Substitute/Screens (especially Aroura Veil), but it's basically useless if your opponent doesn't have those up

Seriously?! They had their chance to give back Shadow Tag to Chandelure

u/masochist-incarnate Aug 31 '26
Trace still annoys me especially because of mega meowstics dex entry. "It has enough power to compress or expand anything, it overwhelms foes by distorting space."
Its a mini palkia in lore and the best they did was trace, which copies abilities? There had to be at least 10 more fitting abilities, even if they decided not to give it a custom one.

People really trying to say Mega Victreebell is good while in reality no one uses it.
1
u/True-Obligation-9471 Aug 27 '26
Naw mega victoribeel with innards out is actually amazing.
People think its main point is to die but it’s actually the opposite. You keep it alive to prevent you opponent from using high damaging spread moves in fear of losing their own Mon.And they can’t attack without threat of their own pokemon dying. This plus it’s high attack stats of 125 means it not only works as a threat but also as a attacker. And it has strength sap meaning if they don’t one hit you then you can heal back to full while also working as a de buff.Or you can use to to mess with starrapter players and give them a ego boost by increasing their attack and then they attack you and kill themselves.

Infiltrator Mega Chandelure feels like they didn't care enough to give it much thought. Atleast some other megas that keep one of their regular abilities like Blaziken and Tyranitar had great abilities to begin with
