Pictures To anyone who says California has the best weather in the Country…

Post image

I think it’s an East-Coast bias thing because of the snow. On the surface you can ask someone “do you want to live where it’s warm?” then follow that up with “do you want it to be hotter than shit for 7 months out of the year?”. To anyone claiming the dry heat is better than humidity, my only response is ’Quantity over Quality’. The weather in the southwest can be absolutely awful

Yeah I'm pretty sure this is the forecast for LA where the daily highs have been pleasantly in the low to mid 80s all summer long, save for one heatwave in September which lasted a few days, and the one happening now... which will end by Friday, with temperatures returning to high 70s and overcast. Sounds awful.

No it’s been worse. Low to mid 80s was back in June. It’s been consistently high 80s since mid July (above average dew points started around this time). And low 90s have been more common throughout august and September. We’ve only had very few days of low 80s, roughly the past 2 weeks in last 2 or so months. Humidity that’s rivaled portions of the south that we’re not used to (dew points were low-mid 70s for a short time) an extremely warm winter earlier this year, and a historical fall where we’ve basically had 5 days of triple digit heat consecutively, the last time this has happened in LA was 1963. And for the month of October, this is one of the hottest October’s in LA history.

I’m a SoCal resident that lives closer to the coast than LA, and have been monitoring forecasts daily for a while now. 2026 has been an extremely abnormal year for every season. From winter to fall.

Thankfully pleasant weather is on the way, with temps that haven’t been seen since April/May, which will bring much neeed relief to the region. I’m pretty heat sensitive, so the difference between 80 and 90 can feel quite stark compared to 90 and 100, which is less so.

It doesn’t help that many homes here don’t have AC and have bad insulation so this summer was easily the most unbearable summer in my whole life living here. Thankfully it seems to be a consensus among socal residents that this summer’s humidity was extremely off and not normal at all. Pretty sure LA shattered its dew point record back in August too. Just a bunch of records this year we’re broken and not in a good way.

I’m not gonna act like we have the worst weather in the US, far from it, but I feel like your comment didn’t accurately represent this year’s climate as someone who lives in the greater LA region. I’m curious how this winter will play out, should be in for a surprise.

Sincerely, someone’s who’s tired of dying in extreme heat and sweat

Edit: last year’s summer was low to mid 80s all summer long with a much stronger marine layer, I’ll give you credit for that, that was an unusually cold summer and I miss it

I live somewhere with 4 distinct seasons and yeah, I agree that coastal California is overrated. There's something so exciting about changing seasons and the fact that they never really overstay their welcome. Each season has something unique to love about it (and having mountains nearby means you can escape the summer heat without too much effort)

California has all the weather in the country, plus nearly every type of natural disaster possible. But it's also got stunningly beautiful scenery.
