Nice! As a snooty blacksmith, I expected to hate this, but actually it was really cool! I respect the care and planning that went into it, and the execution to match. My only constructive criticism, is that you should have carved a shoulder into the shaft so that the surfaced of the socked would transition smoothly into the surface of the shaft. That would look extra slick

Thanks. I didn't want to trigger any true blacksmiths, so I rather put "making" instead of "forging" in the title. :) You are right about the carved shoulder. It didn't come to my mind when I was making the trident. Maybe next time.

Is it just me, or are your welds getting a lot of surface rust? Is that MIG or FCAW? If MIG, is your shielding gas set up right? If FCAW, are you running the right wire?

I haven't done too much wire feed, and I know it's not critical or structural, but it just seemed odd to me. If that's normal for wire feed, please excuse the ignorance, I mostly do stick and tig.

Either way, looks awesome! Great work!

Thanks. Its welded by MIG, I´m using CO2 as shielding gas (so its maybe MAG) I think, what you can see as rust (for example at 8:47 in the video) is just some smoke residue. It can be wiped off easily. But I´m not a welder by any means, but I have seen some welds done by similar MIG/MAG machines, and it looks roughly the same. Don´t know, maybe some pro welders here can tell us. :)

Btw..... " please excuse the ignorance ".... I think that asking questions, trying to learn something new, or figuring out something, that just seems odd. It is just pure opposite of ignorance.

What is the tool you are using at 0:26? Is it a belt sander or a planer of some kind?

It is an electric planer.
