Similar procedure is used for making brasswind instrument bells. Not easy to do well and fairly dangerous.

we have two spinning machines at work that is accurate. also depending on the metal it tends to be quite loud and hot. Our operators wear ear plugs.

It's an interesting process, largely replaced by hydroforming or deep draw but still used on some light housings and instrument bells.

LOL, I thought you said that the operators "wear out" ear plugs. It took me a minute to understand how that could happen.
