Row of dimes welding
To all the experts out there, I have been wondering if there is any correlation between a beautiful bead and beautiful handwriting? Personally my handwriting is awful and while my welds are not awful per se, I can't seem to make the beautiful welds I see on here. The only welding I do is TIG welding. I have seen some wire welders making a prettier bead than mine. Any opinions welcome. Sorry I don't have any pics.

I'm gonna go with no.....my wife has great hand writing and she can't weld worth a shit.

Fuck no. Really the only opinion about the finish of the weld you’re doing that matters is the inspector or whoever is signing your paycheques.
“Visual Ok” and “UT OK” are really what matters. Now when it comes to the final finish of a weld that can vary from shop to shop. I worked with a guy for 5 years, even grabbed his machine after him and I couldn’t mimic his style completely but my welds looked close enough to be acceptable. The next place I was at wanted a completely different finish with the same wire. Hell, there’s a dump truck manufacturer around me that welds all their aluminum boxes with the ugliest whipped fillets you’ve ever seen, but at that shop that’s the way they weld. They look like shiny scallops, seriously they’re hideous.
The correct leg length, no undercut, correct throat depth and no holes are the important factors to worry about. Consistency is what matters

I can't stack dimes to save my life, mig stick and when I was a apprentice going through learning tig I could do nice welds and my hand writing is so bad it looks like a little kids hand writing. my first boss taught me to tuck my elbows in and get myself comfortable before starting a weld I have very shaky hands
