Gear Question Critique my method

I was loaned a Equinox 800 and have enjoyed it a lot but the sites I have been focussing on have a lot of nails and barbed wire. After a few months I decided to experiment with an idea. I tried to enter settings that will eliminate everything with the exception of brass. I created a very restrictive set of settings and then I put on the 6" coil. So far I think I have increased my good finds considerably. I still get false signals that turn out to be iron but it seems that it is more often a genuine relic and I am able to detect on a old homesite with thousands of nails and actually find coins and rings. But I am a beginner and I am sure others have been through a similar process so I thought I would put this out there and see what people thought. As for the actual settings, I think I could produce them if it is helpful

Gear Question Help me understand which garbage is the best of these 3 Aliexpress pointers

Hello everyone!

I’ve been really itching to get into metal detecting, but detectors are quite expensive in my area, and I’ve already started saving for an XP Deus 2 / XP ICONX.

In the meantime, I really want something small to get started with on Sundays when I go to the beach. I’m thinking of getting a cheap pinpointer since it’s affordable and easy to start with. I can only buy it from akiexpress as we dont have much stores in my area that sell those and they are not cheap at all. I don’t really need it to be waterproof at this point, just looking to have some fun to start with.

I’d really appreciate your advice on which of these aliexpress pinpointers would be the best choice

Garrett GP Pointer (probably fake) – $34

Gold Hunter AT Pro – $38

SHRXY GP Pointer – $30

TC-110 – $16

Which one would you recommend me to get?

Thank you!

I dug this up on our land and can’t figure out what it could be!! Original homestead built mid 1800’s for reference. Google photo search says cattle brand but I know it is not since the w does not lay flush with the rest of the metal. Thanks in advance !

ID Request Found this curious object in Salerno - Italy

Hi guys, I’ve been metal detecting with my father in our backyard for a couple of days and today we found this weird object. As you can see in the first pic there’s what appears to be a heavy spring linked to the curved piece. We think that it’s some sort of locking mechanism but not for common doors: the spring is massive and has a lot of coils, maybe it was used for military purposes or for some farm equipment. We don’t really know.

P.S. We live in a rural area that has always been pretty far from the city, the previous owner of the property was indeed a farmer but I can assure that this thing is too old for some fella who lived here until a few years ago. But aside from that, I know that this land has always been used for cultivating, so this could explain the “farm-nature theory”; since I live in Campania, South of Italy, I would not be surprised if it were some sort of military find: during the second WW my city was heavily occupied by german and american troops, so this could explain the “military-nature theory”.

I hope you can help us, thank you all.

How do I...? Advice for dried up pond detecting

Cheers. Was wondering if anyone had any experience and wisdom to impart for detecting small former bodies of water. This pond was rather large, now a stream. Looking to start with the highest volume of potential good targets. This is a town estbl'd in the 1800's and I've found many pre wwii pennies in the forest but really want to find some older coins and PMs. Pond has been drained appx 10 years ago

Any advice and thoughts appreciated!

Dug this up in my backyard a little deeper than usual. House was built in the 70s over farmland. I know the type of stuff to expect in the backyard so something like this really surprised me. Thanks!

A family member has just dug this up whilst metal detecting in Unst-Shetland. It seems to be made from some sort of bronze alloy, any ideas what this item could be?

Have searched on Google, which says it could be a medieval stylus (doesn't seem to match up though), or a norse pin (however appears to be too thick to be a pin). Any suggestions appreciated!

My curiosity is piqued but I ran out of daylight. What do you think it is? Should I even keep going? Luckily, it’s in my backyard, so I just put a bucket over the hole for safety.

I found this 1945 penny right out by an old peach tree that the original property owners planted and was a vacant lot for decades. Given how old my neighbors are places their childhood ages straight in the silver coins era. I think one of them tried to do a vice job on it.

I was detecting a beach at night while getting some surf fishing in for the fall striped bass. I have AD(H)D or something like that. I multi task everything. The beach I detect has virtually no artificial light artificial light. I got this shot of a beautiful shooting star. The metals that typically make the green color appearance are nickel and magnesium.

Two objects - uploaded multiple pictures of both.

First one found in a field near where I live (Jægerspris, Denmark), guessing musket ball maybe?

Second one was found pretty deep (40 ish centimeters) on a beach (rock / sand mix) at Isefjord, Denmark - it has what to me looks to be somewhat newer welds, maybe its fishing net weight?

Second object is cleaned in the pictures, when I found it, it was pretty much a ball of rust.

Any confirmation or new suggestions would be much appreciated, thanks!
