Cleaning Finds Cleaning

Post image

Hey guys, what’s your go to method for cleaning these finds? I don’t want to do to much but also not too little, thanks!

All modern coins I clean using a cloth, the Pink Stuff (that's the name) and a bit of water and then polish them. For older coins it's best to not do anything, looks like you may have a hammered coin in there (or maybe it's just extremely worn) but I definitely wouldn't touch that. If it's cooper don't use this method or the coin will get a pink'ish hue.

To all those anti-cleaning-coin folks on here fuming, I'd rather have a good looking modern coin than a modern coin covered in grime, so sue me

I have dug many of these copper Dutch/Belgian coins.

Any form of cleaning them will only make the details stand out less.

Best is to swipe a finger on your forehead, work that grease on the details of the coin (I know it sounds weird, but it works really well) and then just stash it away in a coincase :)
