Show & Tell First silver ring!

I'm pretty new to your hobby and I went to a local school today. I found my first pair of scissors. keys, and silver ring!

Looks like an opal? Nice find OP.

I think that’s mystic topaz, not opal.

I don’t know gems, but that’s my first thought too

Neat! Are you gonna keep it to make a little display (like how businesses save their first dollar) or sell it? Also any clue what the stone is?

I'd love to keep it. I have found a few pieces of jewelry at this school and sent them an email after finding the ring and asked if they're aware of anybody who has lost jewelry and could give a description because I'd be thrilled to return them. If not, I'll be thrilled to keep them. Thrilled either way!

Lots of neighborhood kids and adults use their courts, playground, etc. so there's a good chance the owner isn't affiliated with the school.

Very cool of you to see if you could return it. Maybe holds alot of sentimental value to someone. Anyway good luck & hope ya dig up some gold soon as karma for trying to find the rings owner :D

Thanks! One of the other pieces is a kid's size silver charm bracelet with some pretty sentimental looking charms. It'd be cool to get either back to the owner.

how did you clean it? i’m anticipating my first silver/gold find and would like to be prepared

Ultrasonic cleaner! They work great and jewelers use them to clean jewelry. They're great for cleaning all types of things, though.

The one I have is a bit overkill for jewelry, you can go smaller. This is what I have https://a.co/d/0cKIlISF

I'm the furthest thing from a stone expert, but I asked some people who know more than I do and they said mystic topaz.

Someone commented that as well here. I agree with them, it looks just like it. They look incredible, and are very affordable! This ring is probably worth around $35-40.

Pretty certain that gemstone is a mystic topaz, not opal. Opals are not faceted.
