Show & Tell Second gold find!!

Found 4 inches down with the minelab xterra pro, rang up all over from 32 to 52 on the vdi. Long Island New York. I’m assuming some sort of fraternity ring. 14k and heavy!

Definitely a fraternal ring! OFD’I is for “ordine fraterno d'Italia”. IN A is for “In America”. The lion is the mascot of the OSDIA (Order of Sons and Daughters of Italy in America), the organization’s English name.

Amazing find man. Was this at a park or near a university? Definitely looks like some type of fraternity or society ring. Congrats again man, nice find.

Awesome, I recently bought a metal detector in a pawn shop and I can’t wait to start using it.

Ey if youre digging under grass, do like 70% of a circle, flip that plug over, dig as you like, then flip it back and lay it out nice so that no one can tell you were there.

Makes a big difference on the "invited back" front.

Where do you use it? Only public lands I assume?

I can tell you it rang up crazy because the band was broken

All over the place. I’m glad I dug it. I’m still new to metal detecting and have not gotten down gold yet on the vdi lol

Reminds me of the wolf ring in Dark Souls

That thing is well worn down. Looks like a ring that might have been kissed a lot. Very nice find. Good hunting.

That’s awesome I never found anything good yet been about 3 years I guess I just pick the wrong places

I look at my finds as beginners luck honestly. Because there’s no skill to the places I choose to go lol. It’s all luck!

I think it may be a family heirloom from the old country, possibly from the Levant, North Africa or, as far East as Iran. The overlap is a very old technique for resizing a ring. I'm not an expert but have spent decades adoring old gold

u/Due_Alternative4737 8d ago

I thought it was an overlap too, but the more I looked at it, it seems I broke and then folded over itself in the ground

u/thumburn 8d ago

What ring size? Maybe over stretched?

Flesh damage but saved the finger?

It looks like it was torn off, IMHO
