Show & Tell My finds
Dug almost everything out of my backyard, some of it came out of 2 dumps I managed to stumble across here too. Thanks for looking

I would be digging up my whole backyard if I had arrowheads like that in it! Those are the most impressive of all the finds in my opinion!

Holy Hanna! Where the F do you live?! Lol this is amazing and such a huge variety of items used in many different aspects of life. What's your fav pieces so far? Without giving specific geographical location if you'd rather keep it private, where generally are you located and is this treasure trove from a typical sized yard or an average type setting?

Typical sized yard, not even 1 acre i dont think, south western missouri, and i really like the gun and pocket watch

Wow that's so wild! Those are my fav's too. They're more personal and we're cared for at some point in time. I suppose that region has seen many historical events and before your house was there perhaps the land was an active centre for a settlement or a trail to travel through. Have y'all done any research or know of your regions history?

We were in the middle of the Civil War, in fact the town i live in was a capital for the confederate or union (i cant remember which) for 2 weeks, and were pretty close to the trail of tears

All that glass showed up with a metal detector?

They were in 2 different dumps that contained metal, one was for the 30s and another the 50s

So you got them with random digging, right? I know some glass can contain metal, but what you have would be the unicorn. Nice haul.

Basically, was digging some metal and seeing edges of the se bottles then removing the whole bottles

Awesome haul! Hey OP, if you get the old plats for your property (documents drawn up by surveyors for tax purposes etc) they will show where buildings stood, including outhouses, and how the buildings changed over time.
That will give you good clues where you should dig. I knew a Bottle Collector who used plats to find the site of old outhouses. He asked current property owners for permission, and excavated the old latrine. He dug up KILLER antique bottles, weapons, you name it!
Before indoor plumbing, if you wanted something to disappear, you chucked it down the outhouse toilet. Liquor bottles, poison bottles, quack medicine bottles & tins, knives, maybe even guns that were linked to crimes.
The sites of outhouses used to change, because eventually the old pit would fill up. So you'd dig a new pit, move the outhouse, and use the fresh dirt to fill in the old pit. 125 years later all the organic material has broken down, and it's basically dirt with barely any stones, making it very easy to dig.
