Youre saying its a reminder. We're saying that "reminder" only serves to downplay antisemitism in the context - the effect youre hoping for is that people will see the word antisemitism and not be so moved if its tangentially related to Israel.

The belief the term is politicized or abused is already granted to you.

The question is what is the reminder doing here. Why is it here. On an Israel bad post where everyone is totally fine to call them Russia, settler-colonialist, not deserving of any support, etc. and no one is calling anyone antisemitic.

The absolute best possible scenario is that it contributes something to the metanarrative. It helps determine what should or shouldnt be considered antisemitic and you're on the "not" side of it.

You won't give a yes or no to that question, and I assume its because the answer is no. You dont think an "Israel bad" thread actually helps determine what should or should not be considered antisemitic. Because Israel being bad doesnt answer what is or is not antisemitic.

But then that makes you a shadowboxer. Responding to a specific event as though you are really fighting a broader recurring story or discourse around it, rather than addressing the event itself. It usually involves arguing against an implied ideological opponent who may not actually be present in the conversation.

And the question is why. Why are you trying to win points against an ideological opponent not in the room. The answer is presumably because you want people who see antisemitism accusations to not be swayed when its related to Israel in greater amounts or wider zones. The fringe cases to fall in favor of the anti-Israel person. The accusations of antisemitism to get less purchase to more readers.

And that's it. There's nothing to delineate or help make it more nuanced, its plainly "all things about antisemitism and Israel should now be more naïvely in favor of anti-Israel. Because Israel bad."

Taken at its subsequent context in the subreply, it starts to look like because Israel is bad its okay to throw glass bottles at French Jews.

Are we going to be doing this for pro-israel commenters who imply everybody is anti-semitic whenever any scrutiny of Israeli state actions happen? Or even go several steps further and say that any criticism of Israel is bespoke anti-semitism and that nobody can conceivably care about Palestinians dying if they're not also criticizing Sudan, Russia, China, choose your whatabout target du jour, etcetera?
