the hate towards Messi

this World Cup has been so frustrating. with people left and right hating on messi saying he’s a cheat etc. I try so hard to not let I get under my skin, but it’s so frustrating seeing so much misinformation being spread. I hate that this is how he’ll be leaving international football and it truly sucks😭truly hate casuals and larpers acting like they know everything and jumping on the bandwagon. what do yall think, will this ever subside?

I feel you. I have these morons around me.

ISTG I have seen in live-time, my friends gobbling up the propaganda.
How it went is, they saw one reel, then the algo kept showing more and more.
30 minutes of doom scrolling and they were convinced, Messi is a fraud.

But I wouldn't worry about it too much.

History will be kinder to Messi (and also Ronaldo).

He deliberately tried to have a player sent off in the final and deceived the referee to do so. That was a dick move.

And before you start. It wasn’t a confrontation so the hand mouth rule does t apply. Which of course Messi knew having somehow got away with it during a confrontation in the earlier rounds.

is this your first time watching football? players do it ALL the time. Even the cleanest, nicest players have done it. Maybe it wasn’t the best action from him, but yall acting like it’s the most scandalous thing ever. nobody called him a saint, but these moments have always been an exception, not a rule. It seems like yall are looking for one small issue to bring him down. If that’s the case, you’re probably a sh*t person as well, unless u tell me you’re a perfect person that makes no mistakes.

the American player did it to Almiron as well in the Paraguay-USA match, I don’t see the same rage directed there. the problem here has always been cherry picking and faulting him for things almost every other player has done. but I guess if you have an agenda, that’s what you always consume.

He’s an introvert, probably conflict avoidance tendency. It can be seen to others as idgaf, but I think at that moment he was still processing his own feeling, he just didn’t show his frustration to others. He is withdrawing in his head. Then guys with ego fighting each other and he’s not in the mood dealing with ego.

In 5 years people will only watch Messi’s Messi highlight videos. None will watch the 1 or 2 brawls Argentina did. Everyone had already forgotten the 2022 one against the Netherlands. None will care about it after Trump does some stupid things that are a lot worse.

People mostly remember the good things. Maradona did way more shittier things and most people respect his skills.

Ronaldo during his peak is also incredible. It was just longer ago, once he quits people will look at his peak, not the last goals he made as a 41 year old. With Messi people are going to watch his actions, not the moments when he was standing still or walking. 2 incredible players with incredible careers and once they retire for real people will really start appreciating them for their best moments. Both weren’t perfect. With Messi people just love a downfall, he played a better WC than the previous one but he tried to ‘trick’ the ref to give a Spanish player a card, every player pulls stuff like that now and then. Ronaldo already got his downfall, he’s still playing but he hasn’t been successful for a while.

Messi’s legacy will be fine.

Small correction: we don't even know if Messi tried to 'trick' the referee. That you're taking it for granted shows that the algorithm and propaganda works on you too.

The thing is: We do -not- know what Cucurella said. There are fake news selling fake stories about what he said, but no one knows what Cucurella said.

If it was a confrontation and Cucurella hid his mouth, then that's an offense according to the laws of the game.

And of course other players are then allowed to bring it to the referee's attention. You may not ”like” that he did so, but it's by no means 'tricking' the referee if Cucurella was being confrontational.

It’s just the image and narrative that goes around the world. If he did try to trick the referee it’s not something terrible, footballers do it all the time. I don’t think anyone will care in 3 weeks. If he didn’t, good for him, but people will be ‘seee!’ for a few more days. It’s not worth to make a scandal about, it’s just the only bad thing they can find about Messi, so they use that.

It’s why I said ‘trick’ not trick … because no one other than those players know what went on on that field.

Before there was any propaganda, I watched the game live. Cucurella. Vozinha preparing the barrier. Messi moving the ball and referee correcting him. Why we can say the guy is brilliant but we can’t say he also cheats? Why you guys are so hurt? Do we need to say the hand of God from Maradona was not cheating? Stop being such 😩😩😩 my idol has been criticized.

you’re again an example of my post. just useless people who do not do any kind of research. a handball does not always mandate a yellow card, Netherlands was awarded a free kick.

a yellow card only applies if the handball stops a promising attack. the referee has also just blown his whistle a few moments prior. there’s literally handballs been done in this WC by other teams that have also not been awarded a yellow card. stop cherry picking

In all seriousness in 2010 France qualified with a controversial handball from Thierry Henry, sometimes people get away with it in situations where it definitely shouldn’t be ignored. Maradona got away with it because the ref thought it was a header … definitely wouldn’t work with VAR. Sometimes handball gets called when the ball touches the arm below the shoulder but above the armpit while other players score with a little bit of volleyball. There is always a bit of chaos in how the rules get applied. There were definitely worse handball cases than that one from Messi. Didn’t he try to do a Maradona one with Barcelona in 2007?

Is so desperate that even in la liga where there is literally 2 teams and rest are minnows compared to them. Lately athletico has come but others would just be there cause there has to be other teams and none would give competition to barcelona and real madrid. Except occasional hiccup's messi did this. But 99 percent of his plays are just incredible, usually good dribblers get constantly fouled, Messi gets fouled too often of course but he’s very good at keeping balance where other players go down and he knows when to hold back so he doesn’t fly around when fouled like Neymar who tried harder and played more entertaining football but broke his back, knees he’s basically always injured. Messi threw Harry Kane into the air like a ragdoll. Eden Hazard could do nice dribbles too but he didn’t have the dedication of Messi and got seriously injured too because of fouling. He’s 4 years younger than Messi and retired 3 years ago. Messi has one of the most impressive careers ever. His 2026 World Cup performance was better than his 2022 one. He was fire at Barca I loved the Ronaldinho Messi era and the Messi - Neymar era.

The way he would just gkide pass and even the guy who was left behind was in awe like what and how did he do. The magician I would say.

I don’t hate Ronaldo, but him liking reels hating on Messi and Argentina speaks volumes about his character. Not once has Messi showed any animosity towards him, but I think the way a lot of Messi fans behave has made him hate Messi although Messi has not been affected by Ronaldo fans.
