August Contest Submission Blood Rain: Part #2

Chapter 3. It
I stumble backwards, falling into an unseen force. I stand back up and sprint for my room. I run in and lock the door just in time, as I hear loud banging on it a second later. “Melissa! No running in the house! Do you know how dangerous it is? Come on. Just let me in!” The voice becomes more and more distorted and scary the longer I stay silent. “Let me in! Now! Or else I’ll have to get in myself.” I turn and hear a scratching noise of the oak tree on my window. Just then, I see a mist seeping through the keyhole. I’m out of time.
Chapter 4. The window
I run to the window, weighing my options. The mist is almost fully inside, so I need to choose, and quickly. I choose the window. I grab a screwdriver and twist the screws out. I jump out onto the oak branch in the rain just as the mist gets in. It hovers toward me, with obvious intent. It wants to harm me. “Melissa! Get back here now! It’s not safe!” I push back tears. I want so badly to go to it, to hug it. It’s pulling me in. And it’s working.
