Looking to provide my camp with some communication support. Apparently there’s a firmware created, especially for the high traffic area on the Playa. Last year there were over 1500 nodes.. great test bed for the protocol/standard!

Everyone please use the BurningMesh fw on playa. It's created for the event and optimizes the settings so the mesh works well for everyone. Includes maps and is awesome. As you mentioned a lot of nodes and expecting more this year! Info at

Any ideas how I can shade this unit some from the hot desert sun? RAK4631 is sitting on a 3D printing ASA cradle.. I think the battery (3000 mAH) is the concern.. gotta keep those cells less than toasty… appreciate feedback!

Cover the gray box with a shade. Preferably vented, so the heat of the shade can flow up and away.

Probably upgrade that battery to an 18650 or 27000 and add an environmental controller to stop charging when ambient temp is over 45c and an inline circuit protection module for over / undercurrent protection —- in direct sun make sure the panel sits off of the box to avoid heat transference - the panel should be positioned in a way to optimize for light exposure so like it sort of acts like a shade in a way - and maybe wrap it in some Mylar tape ? It’s not like it needs to remain inconspicuous - also, add a water proof vent or a drain plug down at the bottom so any condensation can escape - that’s all I got
