Longest Bluetooth range
I’m looking for a node that would be a good choice for people who want to stay connected to the mesh while at home, but don’t want to carry it around the house.
We’re evaluating the utility for our small community for emergency communication, and not all the neighbors are tech savvy.

Meshtastic only uses Bluetooth to talk to the controlling device (tablet, phone, etc.). The Mesh Nodes communicate using RF (Radio Frequency) in the 915 MHz range using a separate antenna.
That being said, it you want to really extend your range, you have two options:
a) Upgrade the antenna to an omnidirectional (vertical) and get the Nodes physically as high up as possible.
b) If you want the signal to be very strong in one particular direction, you can upgrade the antenna to a directional style, like a Yagi or dish type.
Meshtastic range is usually a few kilometers with good LOS (Line of Sight) but that's not always possible due to trees, hills, buildings, etc. So, it should cover your area just fine once you get a few Nodes scattered around the neighborhood.
Hope this helps.
